As a nurse in the city of Milwaukee, I have seen how COVID-19 has become more rampant since the reopening of the state and the lack of face masks being worn by citizens. Please mandate this important ordinance and require the use of masks to protect others and yourself.

I strongly urge passage of the mask ordinance . If you look at what other places that controlled the outbreak have done this is a part of it. Let’s follow their example!

According to a source from National Governors Association; New York Times, demonstrated in the Philadelphia Inquirer - in states where mask use is mandatory, there was a 25% DECREASE in new cases between the first and second weeks of June. But in states where masks were recommended but NOT required, there was an 84% INCREASE in new Covid-19 cases.

Because health officials have determined that masks prevent the spread of Covid-19, please SUPPORT the ordinance that requires face coverings in public spaces until health officials indicate that it's safe to be in public without them.

Please require masks outdoors when social distancing isn’t possible. Otherwise, to curb the uptick in cases, you’ll have to shut down the beaches, parks, bike trails, etc. because people are not taking social distancing seriously. I have seen and heard many comments from people who believe that they cannot get COVID-19 while outdoors, so it’s completely safe to spend hours shoulder-to-shoulder in these public spaces. I think that educating people on this risk is also essential to having the outdoor mask mandate followed correctly. Yes, there is less risk, but it is still there.

I support wearing masks in public. The CDC recommends all people 2 years of age and older wear a cloth face covering in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. COVID-19 can be spread by people who do not have symptoms and do not know that they are infected. That’s why it’s important for everyone to wear cloth face coverings in public settings.

Wisconsin is one of the fastest spreading COVID states in the US right now. What’s an easy way to prevent the risk of transmission? Masks. Make it mandatory to be wearing a mask in public for the safety of Milwaukee residents and to set an example for ways other towns, cities, and states should be reacting to the virus.

According to the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons masks do more harm than good. Please consider the unintended consequences of this mask-wearing mandate!

    "Penetration of cloth masks by particles was 97% and medical masks 44%, 3M Vflex 9105 N95 (0.1%), 3M 9320 N95 (<0.01%)."

"Moisture retention, reuse of cloth masks and poor filtration may result in increased risk of infection."

"A contaminated cloth mask may transfer pathogen from the mask to the bare hands of the wearer."

I think this is the right and responsible thing to do. Places with strict mask policies, or where the majority of people agree to wear masks in public have been able to successfully slow the spread of the Corona Virus (https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2020/06/417906/still-confused-about-masks-heres-science-behind-how-face-masks-prevent). Since it's unlikely that everyone will participate of their own volition the city needs to make an ordinance. It's about public safety.

For the health and safety of us all we need to require face coverings in public spaces. Our numbers continue to rise as the city opens back up without such requirements.

Leave it up to the individual businesses to decide whether they want their patrons to wear a mask. If you don’t want to wear a mask then don’t patronize that business . I’m not sure how it would be enforced anyways. In order to eat or drink you would have to take your mask off because I’m not aware of a mask that allows you to do that. As far as wearing a mask outside… Absurd. Who is going to enforce this? Who is going to decide or look into whether the person you’re with is part of your household. If you think the tension is high in Milwaukee now....

Based on the most recent information the WHO and the CDC is providing, masks are recommended to be worn as they are a simple and effective means of preventing the transmission of viruses. Without clear guidelines from the federal and state level, our city needs to step up to protect its communities from the spread of this virus. We cannot hope to recover economically without first addressing the public health crisis. I hope the policy is focused on businesses and not the individuals so this is not used as an excuse to punish our marginalized community members.

Masks are for everyone’s safety and should be required in public spaces. The virus is spreading fast in Wisconsin and masks have been proven to reduce risk of transmission especially when worn by both parties. If we are going to reopen everything we need to take some precautions, starting with masks.
