I do NOT stand by this! I think wearing a mask should be up to the individual! My children are between 4-10 and they have worn mask but dont wear them properly. ADULTS DONT EVEN WEAR THEM PROPERLY. I believe if your sick, wear one. We may actually end up making ourselves more sick with this mandate & more violence!. Let us keep our right and let the individual decide for themselves. EVERYONE JUST NEEDS TO FREQUENTLY WASH THEIR HANDS, COVER THEIR COUGHS & SNEEZES.

Batman. Spider-Man. Jim Carrey. Not all heroes wear capes. But they do wear masks to help others. Vote yes.

Respectfully, it is unreasonable to have a mask mandate for young children, especially children under the age of five. Parents should be able to decide if their children are capable of wearing masks in the way which they are intended to be worn. Masks on young children often lead to increased face touching, constant removal, and the need for parents to touch the children’s faces to adjust the masks, defeating their intended purpose. Also, masks on young children can become a distraction and divert children’s attention away from their surroundings (cars, etc.). Please educate; don’t mandate.

I strongly support this proposal. The outbreak is accelerating in Milwaukee and beyond. It's important that Milwaukee and its legislators take steps like this to protect vulnerable people and save lives.

According to recent numbers, Wisconsin has the fastest growing spread of COVID19 in the country. Milwaukee has the highest case load of any county. We have seen what happens when public health measures aren't taken seriously - take a look at New York, and currently Arizona, Texas (Houston specifically), Florida, and California. Some cities don't have enough hospitals to treat patients, and patients are dying at home. Please do not let Milwaukee become a new epicenter.

This isn’t really an issue of opinion - research has confirmed that wearing masks significantly reduces the spread of the virus. This is a fact. The best, most responsible decision is obvious - mandate wearing masks in public. Do the right thing.

I support that face coverings are mandatory in public spaces. We need to keep our residences safe and ensure the spread of COVID-19 doesn't get worse.

I strongly support this measure. It's simple: without masks this virus will continue to spread, hurting vulnerable communities, especially communities of color, the most. We've seen proven time and time again in states and areas that did not require masks that their reopening plans have been horrendous. Mask wearing is the simplest way to control the spread of this virus.

Wisconsin has one of the fastest growing COVID-19 spreads in the nation. We NEED to implement the mandated mask rule to protect our citizens.

As an employee in the food industry, it has become a debate every day just going to work. Feeling safe and secure at work shouldn’t be too difficult, and I believe that this ordinance will help incredibly. This will also keep these businesses alive! Health and safety are a must!

Strongly in favor of this measure. There is no evidence to support the contrarian’s claims against mask wearing. Follow the science and please, help us reduce deaths in our city, especially amongst BIPOC.

I STRONGLY oppose this resolution. It is a well documented scientific fact that wearing a mask blocks your airways and therefore leads to both hypercapnia (an increase in and accumulation of carbon dioxide in the body from breathing exhaled air, essentially rebreathing your own carbon dioxide) and hypoxia (lack of oxygen in the tissue). Masks are also a hotbed for microbes sitting directly on one's face. There is now a well documented uptick in bacterial lung infections from the increased mask wearing. Have any of you considered this data when considering mandating masks?

A MUST to do if you are in a leadership position in this city. This is the only way to keep the economy and businesses alive while still reducing infection rates.

I support the measure for face masks to be required when in public spaces. This overall is not an issue of "rights" and "liberties" being infringed upon. It is about implementing a simple measure that prioritizes the well-being of others and yourself in a pandemic over minor discomfort, insecurity about how one looks, and unfamiliarity. It is ridiculous that this is a politicized issue. There is significant scientific data and more continuing to come out that supports how wearing a face mask drastically reduces the rate of transmission of the covid-19 virus to yourself and to others.

Not passing this ordinance would be a violent and racist act. Those who oppose it cite debunked or biased studies, or they totally disregard science that proves the efficacy of mask-wearing. It is, quite simply, a no-brainer. It levels the playing field for businesses who choose to protect the community by requiring staff and patrons to wear masks. Please don't listen to the vocal minority who insist their personal "freedoms" to endanger others are more important than protecting the lives of Milwaukee's most vulnerable.

Wearing a mask is an easy, common sense action that greatly reduces disease transmission. The legislation has exceptions for those whose disabilities prevent them from wearing one, and for when communicating with a Deaf/HoH person who needs to read lips. This legislation is vital to protecting our community.

This ordinance is the least we can do to help stop the spread of coronavirus. It is common sense, backed by science, and will save lives. It signifies that we as a city are willing to accept minor inconveniences for the greater good, and that we expect visitors to do the same. I wholeheartedly support this ordinance.

It takes no effort to wear a mask and wearing a mask is a health benefit for the community as a whole. This seems like an that should be resolved by science not politicians.

Models have shown that mask wearing can lead to outbreak mitigation(Stutt, 2020). It's clear to citizens that MKE officials don’t believe in public health&are instead committed to placing profit over lives. Masks are less effective in protecting the wearer from an infection but are effective in lessening the chances of transmission(Cowling, 2010). So, requiring workers to wear masks doesn’t prevent workers from being infected thus making service workers more at risk for infection than customers.Forcing workers to undertake this risk is not only bad for public health, it’s unethical.

The science is clear, we should take this easy step to save lives and reduce transmission.
