4. 200426 A substitute ordinance relating to a requirement for face coverings in public spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I strongly support making face coverings mandatory in all public spaces. If we keep delaying our response to COVID-19, the consequences will continue to increase. Wearing a mask is the most common sense action that will minimize the transmission of this disease and save lives. We as a country have failed to respond appropriately to this pandemic and are clearly seeing the consequences of our inaction. A mask requirement is critical to stop the spread more than it has already.

This ordinance will destroy small businesses. It will encourage anti mask consumers to spend outside the City of Milwaukee. The Council and the Mayor will add to the division and ire between those who choose to wear and those who do not. ,

I strongly support making face coverings mandatory in public spaces. This is an important measure that can be taken to decrease the spread of COVID-19 in our community. I also hope that the enforcement of this ordinance, when/if passed, is equally enforced. An example of an enforced mandate is the stay-at-home order, where 78% of arrests were African American - an incredibly high percentage that reveals a troubling pattern by the Milwaukee Police Department treating our Black and Brown neighbors differently (info from article titled by Edgar Mendez, Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service).

STRONGLY OPPOSE: Unless a mask is worn properly, made of the proper material, and adheres like a suction cup to your face, it provides little to no protection against a virus like COVID-19. This is a waste of time in consideration and tax payer money in implementation. If such bad measures are allowed, what else will be passed in the name of "health"? Will these councils implement this on the rioters, too? Or do they get a pass because we are not, as the Declaration of Independence states, "created equal"? This should be an individual's choice, not forced action.

The science does not support that wearing a mask contain the spread of COVID. This is also an overstep of the government.

I am opposed to the mask mandate. I worked in research for 12 years wearing all the different types of masks and know masks are useless to prevent the s poo read and it is making it spread due to wet and damp masks which are not thrown away after 1 single use

I strongly oppose this mandate. The science does not support mask wearing as a means to contain Covid, especially since practically no one is wearing them correctly. It's foolish to think that children should wear them and will wear them correctly when adults can't even do it. Keep the public out of your political games and agenda.

Every bit of credible science points to the benefits of masks in minimizing the spread of covid, and businesses simply won't fully enforce safety measures without this ordinance in place. This is the LEAST we can do.

The wearing of masks has been proven to decrease the spread of COVID-19. As such a mask requirement is a simple first step to protect public health. Not requiring masks in public during a pandemic is a slap in the face to health workers and everyone who has to work in a public space to support themselves and their families. The Federal Government has already failed the country in providing adequate medical, economic, and legislative support; do not follow in their incompetent footsteps. Follow the science and require masks to be worn in public!!!

We should have done this a while ago. We didn't, so we should definitely do it now. I don't want Wisconsin numbers to start skyrocketing into the thousands of cases per day range that other states are currently facing.

Masks are essential for protecting everyone from transmitting covid-19. Please make them mandatory!

I call on Alderman Kovac to vote against this ill-informed, poorly-considered, badly-structured measure. While I support wearing masks indoors in public places for the protection of all, there is no good data showing risk from outdoor transmission or among young children. If the Common Council has such data, they are negligent in not sharing it with the rest of the country and the world. The simple idea of young children properly wearing masks is preposterous. If a restaurant or business wants to set and enforce a mask rule, then please do so as you would for a dress code or any other conduct.

I do not consent to mandates of masks, contact tracing, immunity passports, regional checkpoints, body chips or rushed DNA altering vaccines or any other dystopian solution sitting on the shelf that fit "New Normal" agendas.
A Intentional obstruction of an airway is a medical intervention which a holds a risk, where there is risk there must be choice.
Lawsuits will be levied against the city for violations of medical freedom, bodily autonomy and it is likely that some people likely be harmed by the physical use of the mask and some by the psychological effects of coercion... Up go our taxes!

I strongly object. The virus has weakened to the point that the CDC is close to declaring the epidemic is over - the death rate has gotten *that* low. Why masks for something that just isn't that dangerous? They weaken our immune systems. If people *want* to wear them, that is okay, but to require them is a huge governmental over reach. I strongly, completely object to this.

Please pass this ordinance. We can’t possibly feel safe having our children attend school when this virus is increasing daily. Listen to science.

Please follow the science and not the politics when it comes to this issue. Requiring people to wear masks in public makes sense and keeps people safe from the COVID-19 Virus. Requiring people to wear masks while together in indoor spaces is civility at its finest. It is akin to the law requiring seat belts and the law banning smoking from public spaces. Please be leaders and make this a mandate. Thank you.

I strongly support this measure. Following proven preventative measures in the face of a potentially lethal public health threat is a responsibility we each have to protect each other and our society and clearly some people need legal encouragement to use common sense to protect themselves and those around them. Public health is more important than anyone's personal convenience.

I strongly support a mask requirement during this pandemic. We need to slow the spread and it is a proven fact that masks help.

I strongly support this proposal - I lost my grandfather to this virus in April, and have seen it’s effects on our communities health and well-being. A mask mandate helps pave a faster road to economic and social recovery for our city
