First, this is unconstitutional & will not hold up in a court of law. Second, this will harm lower socioeconomic groups-those who can't afford a mask & those who can't afford a fine for not wearing a mask. Third, individuals are opposed to wearing masks will avoid doing business in Milwaukee until the ban is lifted causing millions in lost revenue for the city. Lastly, this shows a lack of faith in the individual by government. You can't legislate morality. Instead, I encourage the City to release a mask guideline for businesses to follow. Trust between government and the governed is at stake.

We are all going to know someone who died from Covid if we do not make mask wearing mandatory in Milwaukee public spaces.

I support the mask policy. I'm a bar owner and it's hard to keep my staff, myself, and my family safe. Anyting that can be done to help control accidental spread is a tool we need to help us keep the economy going and the community safe.

Local business owner here. We strongly support a safe and healthy environment for our staff and guests. We, along with many other businesses, simply can’t afford to have a gray area in regards to mask wearing. It needs to be a standard or, frankly, this public health crisis is going to go on much longer and eventually damage the likelihood of businesses surviving. Please make it a standard for wearing one inside public spaces.

I strongly support requiring masks to be worn in public spaces, most especially indoor spaces. As a restaurant worker, I have seen firsthand the recklessness and idiocy with which the general population has moved around in public spaces. I have no choice but to interact with a**holes who believe they are owed my time and service. My only other option is to quit my job and stop paying my bills.

We are in a pandemic and people have made it clear that they do not care about one another and would rather see people die than wear a mask. This is so disgusting and disappointing to me. WE MUST MANDATE MASKS. It is absolutely necessary and will save hundreds of people.

This ordinance should not apply to young children or outside spaces. In stores where masks are required, I encourage my young children to wear them, but I remind them to replace/readjust their masks multiple times during shopping trips. If this ordinance passes, my family will have to do our shopping outside the city to avoid being penalized or excluded from establishments when my young children inevitably remove or improperly wear their masks. It's also unrealistic (and unsafe) to require people (especially young children) to wear masks outside for extended periods, while exercising/playing.

Masks save lives. As a business owner my life and livelihood depends on this.
We have a responsibility to help to get this important piece of legislation get passed.

First, the decision to wear a mask or require a mask on your property should be left to individuals and business owners, not government. Consumers can vote with their feet. If true public demand for masks existed, business owners would all adopt mask policies and this would happen organically. This is a good way to drive more consumers to suburban businesses, where no mandates exist. Secondly, in all of WI, there are only 264 COVID-19 hospitalized patients, compared to 446 in April, during full lockdown. COVID-19 is decreasing in severity, not increasing.

Implementing a mask mandate is absolutely vital to the survival of our community (especially BIPOC communities) and crucial to successfully overcoming and moving forward from the pandemic. Masks needs to be required, it’s an easy, simple way we can literally save lives and stop the spread of the virus. It’s not an infringement of rights, it’s the way we can protect our public health.

It’s vitally important to value the health and well-being of the community over the potential minor discomfort of a few. Masks aren’t going to kill you but COVID can

As a business owner, I strongly support this ordinance. Mask use = less infections = keeping our businesses open for business. If infection rates go up and we are forced to close our doors again, we (as well as many other businesses) will go out of business. We need to keep our residents safe AND keep the economy going. We have the power to do both by mandating masks in public spaces.

I am all for protecting our individual rights as citizens, but there comes a time when an individuals poor choice affects the health and well-being of someone else. That's not ok. Masks = keeping us all safe.

It’s simple common sense. Protect Milwaukee and its civilians.

Please keep restaurant employees safe. It's not hard or inconvenient to wear a mask.

If there's any chance that by everyone in the community wearing masks the number of positive reported cases can be lowered, this is a no-brainer.

Masks should be mandatory in public settings. We need to prioritize taking care of each other and getting through this sooner. It is truly not that difficult to temporarily cover your nose and mouth while in public, near other people, running errands, etc. Let's not let conspiracy theories about masks get in the way of protecting the health and safety of ourselves and our loved ones.
