Masks are obviously only one of a number of necessary elements, but it might be an idea to look at pandemic responses in parts of the world that have been more successful than here, and where masks are regarded as a normal precaution. Japan has a population of approx 125 million with less than 1000 deaths to date, South Korea with a population of 51 million and 289 deaths. We have a population here in Wisconsin of 5.8 million and already 800 deaths.

Masks will save lives. While wearing a mask is a simple and painless task, unfortunately many still think it unnecessary. Mandatory mask wearing in public is an easy step to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

I strongly support this. Wearing a mask is to protect the health and safety of those around you. It is sad that it must be enforced, but I am sad and afraid when I walk around our city and see so many people not wearing masks. This is an easy, safe, and cheap way to save lives of those in your community and I see no reason why this should be a problem to implement.

I am disturbed by the number of people who claim that being mandated to cover half of one's face is no big deal. This mandate is a very big deal for the social, emotional, and language development of children. Meanwhile, there is no science to support the use of masks by healthy people. Those who have seen some data, please don't be shy! There is certainly no basis for allowing flimsy, useless cloth coverings if health is our goal. Cloth face covers may even increase one's chance of illness for what I think would have been obvious reasons as recently as last year! I will not fear my neighbor.

It is unfortunate we have to mandate something that should be common courtesy. If people could respect others personal space, it probably wouldn’t be necessary. However, this isn’t the case, & the more people resist, the worse it will stay. We all have to suffer so that we can be safer. Let’s work together & put our egos away for awhile.

I support this bill. I am glad to see that reasonable exceptions are listed.

I oppose as written. You have no authority to mandate mask wearing in outdoor spaces. “Experts” have all stated that you need longer exposer (10 minutes) for a increased chance of contracting it. I am ok with indoor mandates, but outdoors now your overstepping your boundaries. Also the minimum age should be 5 not 3.

People have shown that they can't be trusted to have enough common sense to not spread covid. Extenuating circumstances call for extenuating solutions. Forcing people to wear a mask will help keep the spread of covid low so we can get past this and enjoy going out again.

The outdoor mask wearing is a bridge too far . .It's hard to believe Milwaukee could make the reopening worse than the lockdown but here we are
The science indicates that in passing one on the street that the chances of transmission are near zero . There must be “ prolonged contact “ . What proponents term support is in reality is a forced recruitment of everyone into the same emotional mold regarding masks . We're everyone is told that we are all part of some great effort . This is an attempt to force submission on Covid unbelievers.

Oppose as written. I support the need, but no issues were fixed in the committee meeting. The minimum age needs to be raised to 5, and the exceptions clarified especially around eating and drinking.

I support an ordinance requiring face coverings in public spaces to help save lives.

I do not support the ordinance. I am an adult and I know how to socially distance especially when outside. It is difficult to wear the make while exercising.

Why would we not do everything we can to protect our residents? It's such a simple concept. The ordinance will show that our leaders care for their residents, and that we should care for each other.

I work in a public space and right now customers argue with us and refuse to wear a mask to keep us safe. Putting this on businesses creates huge struggles while small businesses are already on the brink of extinction. If someone gets our staff sick by not wearing a mask, we will have to close down while we sort out who all got sick. Many places can't afford to close down once, yet alone repeatedly. Refusing a to wear a mask is not only deadly for other people, it is awful for the economy. The longer this goes on the longer we shut down the city.

This is a good idea. Milwaukee is a major hot spot and people aren't taking it seriously in public spaces. I hope this passes.

The decision whether to wear a mask should be left to each individual. This is just an opportunity that the city is trying to exploit to take money from its citizens and increase “crime”. The majority of people do not wear masks when visiting each other’s personal residencies anyway, rendering this mandate null. At the very least, any requirement should not be applicable to the outdoors.

I fully support requiring masks in public spaces. If the experts are right, then we are helping to slow the spread of Covid-19. If they are wrong, then we are wearing some fabric on our face for a little while. Big deal. It is the bare minimum that we can do to protect one another—especially essential workers.

I support this measure in hopes that my children can return to school safely and without the fear of another surge of cases. If we act now, we may have a chance to slow the virus down enough before school is scheduled to start.
