Nobody wants to wear a mask outside and who knows when someone will be within 6ft of you. Policing this will be so frustrating and hard to do frankly. I think businesses reserve the right to require masks or not. That way the public can decide if it’ll shop there or not(ex: Costco & Menards) Lets be honest most people have no idea how to wear a mask properly anyway which is worse in my opinion. Ultimately nobody likes being told what they have to do and I this is the case here. I wish we spent more time on hand washing vs mask wearing.

The widespread wearing of masks can save lives and we owe it to the people who are forced back to work not because it's safe but as an excuse to remove low income workers from unemployment to do so. How will the Common Council ensure that the enforcement of this mandate won't serve as one more excuse for MPD to harass BIPOC communities? What measures will be put in place to ensure accountability and oversight of the equitable enforcement of the masking policy?

I can understand the need for masking indoors but I think the outdoor rule is overreaching. More government regulations will not solve the issue. Personal responsibility and health education will. Get the government out of our personal lives and fix real problems with this city being overrun by criminals and poorly maintained streets, things that should be the true function of government. Milwaukee is becoming more and more or a ____ hole that can't be fixed by more liberal democrats stuffing socialist agendas down the throats of otherwise law abiding citizens while criminals run amok.

There is too much mixed information on masks. You are about to further socially isolate and depress children like my youngster, who has sensory difficulties. He will absolutely not wear a mask. While other people do, and I do when he isn’t with me, I can’t when he is with me because he needs to see my facial expressions to feel safe. Further, masks will force us to breathe in more bacteria and CO2. We are going to create more problems. In addition, people wearing masks constantly touch and shift them, spreading more germs to anything else they touch. It causes more contamination.

Without leadership at the federal level, local communities are shouldering the burden to curb cases of COVID-19. Evidence shows that wearing a mask and practicing other safety recommendations, such as hand-washing and physical distancing, make a significant impact on rates of infection. This decision is not a political one, it is rooted in science. To responsibly open up our city and economy, we need to protect others and ourselves in our interactions.

This is a matter of public health and empathy for each other. We’ve seen the evidence that both masks and social distancing are affective in halting the spread of this virus. Masks are to keep those around you safer. You have no idea what you’re exposing people to. Why wouldn’t you support the small gesture of wearing one in order to (literally) save lives?

I care about children, and think it is unsafe to force coverings on the breathing passages of 3 year olds. Masks are not certified as child safe, and the mask presents a choking/smothering hazard for children. Furthermore, non-medical grade masks aren't certified as conferring any protection from Covid-19, so this policy is not science based. If you pass this ordinance I will just drive outside the city to do all my shopping mask free, and not pay any sales tax to the city. Then I'll buy a house outside the city, and not pay any property taxes to the city. I do not consent to forced masking.

Businesses should not have to enforce laws and should not be penalized if individuals choose to not wear masks.

Each business has the right to require or not require masks. This isn’t your right to decide for all businesses. Individuals can wear masks or not wear masks and then decide which businesses they will support based on their business policies. Owners own the businesses, not you. Stop trying to control their rights as owners.

I support requiring masks. I tried to read the legislative text but when I clicked on the link nothing happened. I think citations should go to owners and organizations not individuals. We have done a TERRIBLE job containing Covid19. America has failed its vulnerable populations and its frontline healthcare and essential workers. People should try thinking about someone other than themselves. Sorry if this is a double post. I wrote before but I think it didn’t go through because I didn’t have an account yet.

    There is limited
evidence that wearing a medical mask by healthy individuals
in the households or among contacts of a sick patient, or
among attendees of mass gatherings may be beneficial as a
    preventive measure.
14-23 However, there is currently no
evidence that wearing a mask (whether medical or other types)
by healthy persons in the wider community setting, including
universal community masking, can prevent them from
infection with respiratory viruses, including COVID
