I strongly support a mandate to wear masks in public spaces in Milwaukee, including stores, bars, and restaurants. This is a clear measure that can be taken to help to keep the people who work in and patronize Milwaukee establishments safe. The CDC clearly states that wearing a mask that covers your nose and mouth helps to keep others safe, and is especially important given the possibility of asymptomatic spread of the virus.

Whole heartedly support. It’s clear that a significant number of people won’t wear a mask if it’s optional, it needs to be mandated.

I strongly oppose! This is still a free country! Making people wear masks that may or may not even be effective is tyrannical at best. Wem don't have that many cases here. Let the businesses decide.

As an owner of multiple restaurants and an employer of many employees in Milwaukee, I urge support of this legislation. If we are required to close or interrupt business for a second time this would be catastrophic for our businesses and may legitimately have to close them permanently.

Strongly oppose. If this happens, I will be sure to not do any further business within city limits as long as this remains in effect.

For the protection of ALL Milwaukee residents, wearing a mask indoors, as recommended by health experts, is the least we can do in order to open the economy and respect one another. I don't believe a mask is necessary when biking or running outdoors. But it does make sense to be respectful with physical distancing when around other people and keep the 6 ft distance in mind.

Support. It's idiotic that we need to debate this. Maybe if we didn't rush a reopen we would have used common sense right away.

I support a reasonable indoor mask mandate. I support the use of a mask while getting seated at restaurant/bar being visited & removing it once you are seated with your party so you can eat/drink. Taking it on&off several times would increase touching of your face & be counterproductive. I'm am strongly opposed to mandatory masks while outdoors, especially while exercising. This is unnecessary. Im strongly opposed to mandating them in gyms following CDC guidelines for class size, cleaning, & social distancing. Outdoor workouts should also be exempt. Be reasonable to avoid pushback

As a service industry worker, I strongly support this measure. I have seen customers who choose not to wear masks come in to my store, cough into their hand, and then use that same hand to attempt to give me their money. COVID-19 has not gone away simply because people wanted it to, and our policies must reflect that. Best case scenario is that it helps stop the spread of a virus that is literally infecting and killing people at an alarming rate. Worst case scenario is that wearing a mask is a mild inconvenience to some.

As a restaurant owner in the city of Milwaukee, we need to take this most basic step to preventing the further spread of Covid-19. Outside of Staying at Home, wearing a mask and practicing social distancing are the two most important things we as citizens can do to promote a happy healthy Milwaukee moving forward. Wearing a mask in a restaurant shows how much you respect those inside serving you and it shows what a good person you are. Let's keep Moving MKE Further! Wear A Mask!

Emphatically support and should be integrated with the overall phased recovery/re-opening. More importantly, public assistance to obtain PPE must be included. Fabric masks average $10-15 each and must be washed/sanitizer after each use. At MINIMUM, a week’s worth of masks for a family of 4= $280-420 invested. Plus they must be replaced over time/use. You must provide/subsidize access to appropriate PPE for individuals/families that can’t afford this investment. In order for this to be successful, ALL of MKE’s residents must be able to participate without fear of how they’ll pay for it.

Strongly oppose. The ordinance is based on a Los Angeles ordinance which has been in effect for weeks. LA is a COVID hotspot, so clearly, the ordinance was not effective. The decision whether to wear a mask should be left up to individuals and businesses. We do not need a city ordinance especially when none of the surrounding suburbs have anything in place.

This will relieve individual vendors from having to determine and justify policies.

I strongly support a citywide, mandatory mask ordinance. Every day that we do not take coordinated public measures to stop the spread of coronavirus, the virus spreads and becomes more difficult to bring under control. We need a mandatory mask policy now so that we can reduce cases to the point where contact tracing is enough to control the pandemic. The longer we wait to enact a mandatory mask policy, the more people will be infected and suffer.

I strongly support this. The evidence is clear- wearing a mask reduces the transmission of COVID-19. We have an opportunity to avoid an alarming rise in cases, which we are seeing in other locations throughout the country right now. Appropriate action should be taken to keep people safe, especially since it is known that wearing a mask can significantly impact the spread of COVID-19, in a good way.

I support a city wide mandate on masks. This is the minimum that needs to be done to prevent further spread of COVID19 if local workers are forced to go back in these unsafe conditions. There is already sufficient scientific evidence that universal masking helps prevent COVID19. Also, if public health is not enough of a motivation, think of the economic benefit of preventing the spread - nobody wants a second shut down. Please pass this mandate to ensure Mlwaukee's health and safety! Please remember there was a time when seatbelt laws seemed ludicrous and tyrannical - masks are no different!

I am a licensed health care practitioner and I strongly support this measure. Masking has been shown to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. When people enter businesses without masks they put the people who work there as well as other patrons at risk. Without a mandate employees must choose to risk their health or possibly loose their job. Mandating masks is not a violation of freedom, it is a protection of public health such as being required to wear shirts or shoes or for employees to wash their hands. Please lead wisely and protect the public.

I strongly support this initiative! It is a great way to protect patrons, employees and the families of workers. Contrary to the naysayers, masks have shown to be effective against covid. Furthermore, if doctors, hospital staff, the head of the FDC, CDC, etc. are recommending it then we need to pay attention. It is one of the easiest tools we have right now to help curb the spread as cases continue to increase.

I strongly support this in order to keep our community safe. It especially keeps safe workers who have no choice but to leave their homes in order to serve or care for the public in order to keep their jobs and pay their bills.
