Masks are essential to ensuring the safety of everyone, especially retail/grocery/food service employees who are struggling to deal with people who still refuse to wear masks and abide by store-mandated rules. There is no personal risk involved in wearing a mask. Science supports this. However, there are too many conspiracy theories circulating to detract from the obvious fact that yes, masks DO prevent transmission by catching respiratory droplets. People are being stubborn and selfish. Please implement a citywide mask policy.

I strongly oppose a city ordinance requiring people to wear a mask.

I fully support. Please show one ounce of consideration for others. Wearing a mask saves lives. It is such a minor inconvenience it’s hard to believe this is even being debated. It’s already difficult enough for workers who have to deal with the public on a daily basis. Have you met the public? They’re the worst!

If you oppose this you are then inferring that you would rather people risk sickness and or death than for you to wear a mask which is both extremely selfish and ignorant.

STOP IT. This shouldn’t be political. Please just listen to the scientists and medical professionals.

I wear a mask to protect you, you wear a mask to protect me. This isn't an independent, isolated decision when your decision can make others ill. There is no "right" to jeopardize the health of others. Asymptomatic infected don't know they are spreading virus. How is this different than personal or business insurance and licensing laws and mandates, health department requirements, clothing and shoe requirements in public, seat belt laws, smoking bans, etc? The research and science are there. If 80% of this country wore masks, we would see a significant decrease in infection. We need this.

    Risks < Benefits

    Don't be selfish.

Listen to Dr's and Scientists who are all SAYING THE EXACT SAME THING. Wearing masks makes a huge difference! no brainer.

I serve people at my café everyday without masks on, and I would like more peace of mind knowing I’m coming home healthy to care for my grandmother. Making masks mandatory would definitely help me with that.

For those at risk, there is only so much that we can do to protect ourselves without the support of the community. My mask gives me some safety, but the masks of others provides me much more. Are masks annoying? Yes. Our elders, neighbors, and community are without doubt worth the inconvenience of a piece of cloth. How little do we value human life if we're not willing to use a mask to prevent pain and death? As police presence continues to disproportionately harm communities of color, there must be deliberate consideration in how this policy would be enforced as to not cause more trauma.

The public complies with many laws meant to protect their health and wellness including seatbelt laws and hygiene and food service regulations. Being mandated to wear a mask during a global pandemic is no different. We have seen that without intervention many will not take the proper steps to keep their fellow citizens safe by social distancing or wearing masks voluntarily. Doing this now gives us a chance of opening schools in the fall and avoiding an otherwise inevitable second shutdown.

This is should be a no-brainer.

Wearing a mask has proven to help slow the spread of Covid-19. I believe we all have a responsibility to protect not only ourselves, but all our fellow Wisconsinites and wearing a mask in public spaces seems to be the bare minimum.

The recent & probably many future decisions of our city leadership is in serious doubt and are making decisions by the seat of their pants. They have been uninformed & knee jerk reactions to perceived issues without looking at the big picture. City leadership just keeps on adding to the reasons why we do not want to raise a family in this city. Proposed additional & already enacted police budget cuts, failing public schools (yet pumping more tax money), high crime, high taxes, fees for cars, water, garbage & snow removal..now this mask mandate? NO MASKS!! Dang out of characters, so much more.

I think this is so important. As a citizen of Milwaukee who is immunocompromised it has been very anxiety-provoking to go anywhere knowing that there was nothing in place that required mandatory mask-wearing. To protect the people of Milwaukee this needs to happen. Not just in government/public establishments but all establishments: grocery stores, other stores, restaurants, banks, museums, pharmacies, healthcare facilities, etc. To actually “flatten the curve” we need to mandate mask-wearing. It is necessary that we do. This is about public health during a pandemic, not so-called “freedom.”

Oppose. Should be up to the individual.

There are misunderstandings as to face mask requirements and persons with disabilities' (PWDs) rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). 1.The ADA does permit denial of goods and services to a PWD if it would pose a direct threat to the general public. The ADA acknowledges reliance on guidelines from CDC and state and local health authorities in determining a direct threat. 2. Screening criteria to deny service is not permitted unless it is applied to all. 3. Businesses should look at amending their policies and procedures to reasonably accommodate a PWD, ie. curbside service.

This should not even be up for debate. Wearing a mask is not just for you but for the safety of those around you. If you want business to open back up, you need to support those who make that happen. Masks may be inconvenient and uncomfortable, but what’s more uncomfortable is watching someone you love fight for their life, or die alone in a hospital room. This is not “taking away your freedom” but merely asking for a simple act of kindness and consideration that requires no sacrifice other than to have a piece of fabric over your mouth when in public. This should not be a difficult decision.

The health and safety of our community is if the utmost importance. Wearing a mask is one of the few tools we have to fight this. I am in full support of the mandatory mask policy. In order for it to be effective, we must all do our part and wear one.

the science is not proven that they are safe and effective. not to mention the potential long term effects. please let people and business decide - this should not be a government mandate as the science is just not there to back it up. check out what a leading expert in the field has to say. https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/podcasts-webinars/special-ep-masks?fbclid=IwAR2hN7jZ6yQv51ijKRSl-0L4KEDy0Lxx7iji9x-Vif9Qpa_kn-ITHBmqywc
