I support the immediate implementation of this policy. Everyone needs to wear a mask consistently in order for them to be highly effective. We urgently need you to take action to prevent the continued spread of this virus. It is the responsibility of the city to ensure all citizens are sbkr to remain safe and healthy and implementing public health policies such as this, that have been proven to be effective elsewhere in the world be a step in the right direction.
I fully support the mandate to wear masks in public. It is a fact that wearing a mask prevents the spread of illness. Having worked with the general public for many years I can tell you a lot of people suck and enacting this mandate may help with the stress of dealing with an uncooperative person.
The city of Milwaukee has a responsibility to protect people, specifically service sector workers, from those who do not believe in COVID 19 or don't care about spreading it. I am a service sector worker at a prominent coffee chain in the city and at my location a customer who refused to wear a mask invaded the closed dining room, seated herself and demanded to be served. When asked to leave she became violent and threw a metal sign at my co-workers, injuring both. People like this are emboldened by the fact that the city has done nothing. Protect us Common Council members! It is your job!
There is nothing stopping businesses from enacting their own mask policies, which people have been respecting throughout the city. There is a multitude of data in support of the idea that asymptomatic spreading is not a common means of transmission. Enacting a universal mask policy assumes that asymptomatic transmission is driving the spread. Public health initiatives should focus on urging symptomatic people to self-isolate, contact tracing, raising awareness for at-risk people to take measures to protect themselves, and other social distancing measures that have already been put in place.
I strongly support a city ordinance requiring mask wearing. This is NOT something that should be left up to the individual. Masks protect other people much more than the mask wearer. So, it is a limit to other people’s freedom of movement for some individuals to chose not to wear a mask. Allowing some people to choose not to wear a mask, is akin to allowing some people to chose to drive drunk. When someone makes that choice, they are putting the people around them in danger, not just themselves. There is virtually no cost to wearing a mask. As such this must be implemented immediately.
It’s ludicrous at this point to debate whether or not a city-wide mask ordinance needs to be put in place. For the health and safety of every citizen (even those who refuse to acknowledge the obvious seriousness of the virus), there needs to be a mandatory policy for wearing masks. Do the right thing and protect your community. Everyone concerned about their “rights” being taken away needs to be educated further on the subject, and it’s unfair to put those at risk in danger due to the ignorance of others.
Just wear a mask. Until a vaccine is available to all, this is the best option. I lost a family member to Covid19, they were young and healthy. If we want to continue to keep moving forward with life, wearing a mask is a small ask.
Study after study has proven that facemasks drastically reduce the spread of this crippling virus. This is not a violation of one's rights or freedom. This is not a political issue. This is a ridiculously simple effort that can save lives. We have to work together on this to protect those in our community who are vulnerable. Wearing a mask for a few minutes in a grocery store or crowded public place is nowhere near as "dramatic" as a nurse/doctor wearing full PPE for hours, trying to save and help someone whose been sickened with COVID-19. It's common sense and common good.
I strongly oppose! This should be a personal decision as masks pose hazards for healthy people and infringe on constitutional rights for all but especially the hearing impaired!
I am a homeowner in the Third Ward. I strongly oppose a mandate. There is no evidence that masks prevent spread of virus, with the exception of a properly fitted n95. There are many doctors who believe that healthy people should NOT wear masks & furthermore that they are dangerous.
I recently dined at 3 restaurants that signed the letter. These restaurants are not currently mandating masks. Why do they request a mandate when they currently allow customers in without masks? Hypocrisy. Businesses have the right to require masks and I have the right to not dine there. It should remain a CHOICE.
Oppose. Masking absolutely has a place, but the WHO cautions against mandates (from 4-6-20) “the wide use of masks by healthy people in the community setting is not supported by current evidence & carries uncertainties & critical risks.”
Currently businesses issue their own rules & we choose whether to comply or shop elsewhere. W/a mandate those opposed can only choose to take their business out of MKE cty.
What an incredible waste of time/money to attempt to enforce this. Already most mask incorrectly, negating any benefit! Like now those who want to mask will, those who don't, won't.
Wearing masks is a population-level solution that is only fully effective if the population at large is participating. So far, the population at large is not participating. We need to enact policies and legislation in order to save lives. Wearing a mask is not a big sacrifice, people!
Mask wearing indoors or when social distancing is not possible, must be mandated. The federal and now state government have let us down in all protections from the spread of COVID-19. Don't allow the city to fail as well
With compassion for every citizen of Milwaukee, I support the movement for citywide masking. We have the research to support and enact this ruling for the care and protection of all.

For the health of our citizens and the recovery of the local economy.

As the mask box states "does not prevent Covid-19"

I support this citywide masking policy.
I fully support the mandate to wear mask in public setting. It is imperative to do so to protect our communities health and well being.
I fully support The idea of making masks mandatory for people out in public in Milwaukee
