    This is necessary, unfortunately.

As a recent breast cancer survivor, I have a compromised immune system. I have spent most of the last 4 months inside, fearful to go to the grocery store or even for a walk in my dense, urban neighborhood. A mask mandate would provide more peace of mind. It will also help slow the spread, so we can start opening up and getting our economy back on track- not to mention, save lives.

I support masks in public, however, I struggle with there not being an except for exercise. If you are running or biking, wearing a mask will prove difficult. Per the CDC website: "People who are engaged in high intensity activities, like running, may not be able to wear a cloth face covering if it causes difficulty breathing. If unable to wear a cloth face covering, consider conducting the activity in a location with greater ventilation and air exchange (for instance, outdoors versus indoors) and where it is possible to maintain physical distance from others." Please consider this.

Wearing a mask is detrimental to our health because it causes more diseases (see link below). Our best defense is taking care of our good health by exercising, eating well, being with our loved ones, being in the sun, breathing fresh outdoor air, spirituality, and the like to boost our immune system to fight disease. Herd immunity is critical in fighting viruses. The statistics say this virus is not more deadly than the flu so we shouldn't destroy our normal way of life and health by wearing a mask.

I strongly support this. The sooner Milwaukee makes the initiative to try and protect its residents, the better off our community will be. We're now approaching a four-month long pandemic. It's kind of ridiculous that Barrett's plan to get Milwaukee to make money took priority over his constituents' safety. Thank you common counsel for listening to the people of Milwaukee. I hope this passes, for the sake of our city's future.

The discriminatory exceptions to this mandate make it null and void.

If your face mask work then those that do not wear one should not hurt those that wear one if they work. It is our bodies and our right to wear or not wear one,and I will sue anyone that mandates face mask because it goes against my constitutional rights. Your immune systems were meant to fight against infections, germs and Diseases naturally so let it do what it was made to do .

    1. Allow individuals and businesses to make their own decisions

    2. Not enough evidence that masks are effective

    3. Masks rarely worn properly

    4. Does not make sense to move to a more open "phase 4" while being more restrictive with masks

    5. If passed, when will mandate end? What threshold needs to be met before we say people can stop wearing masks?

    6. We live in a divided society. Masks separate people even more. A visible loving smile goes a long way in relationship building, especially between people of different racial backgrounds.

Masks need to be worn in all indoor public places.

Wearing masks in public is essential to preventing the spread of covid-19. When people choose not to wear one they are taking away others "rights" to public health and safety. Protecting people in your community should not be an option.

It is the most basic thing we can do to protect others as well as ourselves. It's pretty simple and I'm not sure why it has become such a battle. If you choose to not wear a mask stay home-simple!

Please require masks to be worn in public places. It’s the simplest, cheapest and most cost-effective way to protect public health while enabling businesses to remain open. Thank you.

I wear my mask in buildings but this ordinance concerns me. What will happen when a small business encounters someone who refuses to wear a mask? Do they call the police? Risk a fine? Get into a potentially heated argument? Some police in upstate New York are not enforcing mask laws. And we've all heard about agitators purposely entering businesses without masks. Have any of these factors been taken into consideration? Less serious but still a question: If I pass by another cyclist on a trail, do we both don our masks for the 1 second we are within 6 feet of each other?

I completely support making masks mandatory in public spaces. Masks have been proven effective in slowing the spread of COVID-19 yet few people wear them anymore because it’s become political. We need good leadership on this. Many other places in the state and country now require masks. It is necessary.

As a small business owner I fully support this ordinance. This should have been done months ago. Thank you for working towards keeping Milwaukee safe.

However good the intentions might be behind this mandate, requiring people to wear masks is a violation of our Constitutional rights. No one but myself knows what is best for my health and happiness.

If you chose to not wear a mask, you should not be allowed in public spaces. NOTHING unconstitutional about this, STOP. The same people who tout fears about the economy refuse to acknowledge how doing nothing about the virus is extremely damaging to small businesses. Do you support your community or refuse to be inconvenienced? Because the people of this city have to go to work, we aren't being supported by anything else. My high-risk grandpa has been told by his employer to return doing at home visits or they'll consider him resigned. People are not being cared for, do the bare MINIMUM.
