Strongly opposed. This is NOT a government issue. Businesses and healthcare facilities can make their own decisions. Enacting this will only pull out community and our families further apart.

Strongly support. There are no medical conditions that prevent you to wear a mask. It effects everyone around you. It is not a personal decision. If you go out, you should have to wear a mask.

It would be detrimental to those with medical/mental health conditions. They deserve the right to be in public just as much as everyone else does, and this ordinance would cause them to be ridiculed, shunned, or even be forced to stay home in fear. Sure, you can make an “exception “ but that will not stop businesses from still denying them service. Is this really how such people with disabilities should be treated in our community? This ordinance is nothing more than cruel and discriminatory.

I strongly support this measure, although I wish it were unnecessary. Based on the number of people who refuse to take this simple step to protect one another, however, I believe it is. Masks are an easy, if inconvenient and slightly uncomfortable, way for us to slow the spread of COVID-19, and wearing them has been unnecessarily and absurdly politicized. We mandate seat belts, car seats and other public safety measures; this is no different, except that it requires us to make an effort to primarily think of and be concerned for others rather than ourselves.

I strongly oppose. It is unconstitutional, and the masks are not effective at preventing the spread of the virus. The masks give a false sense of security to those who wear it, i have personally witnessed this.

I strongly support requiring masks. Wearing a mask is a simple, effective way to prevent the spread of a virus we know very little about. Other places in the US and around the world have implemented mandatory mask wearing and it has proven effective at slowing the spread of the virus. At the rate in which Milwaukee is spreading the virus, I don't think we can afford to not be requiring masks.

All face masks are demonstrably unhealthy to wear for a few minutes at a time, due to oxygen levels being depleted to hazardous levels according to OSHA standards, as well as CDC and WHO safety guidelines.

Moreover, because unilateral coercion by the civil arm of government is unnecessary and unhealthy, it generates unnecessary anxiety, stress, health risks, and complications for all who cannot and ought not comply.

Also, no face-covering or mask can filter a virus. Copious amounts of medical data illustrate demonstrable insufficiency of masks to prevent viruses from transferring to others.

Cases are going up and deaths are going down. The CDC even just came out and said it may loss epidemic status which is way below the pandemic this was made out to be (https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2020/07/06/covid-19-may-soon-lose-status-as-an-epidemic-under-cdc-guidelines-n609729). Wearing a mask is traumatic for many people and also very difficult to this with disabilities, such as deaf and autistic, who rely on facial expressions and reading lips for a majority of their communication.

I do believe that masks should be worn in public places, but I do believe that it should be up to the individual businesses. In a child care setting, the children need to see their teacher's faces to learn important skills and expressions. Children and teachers are active all day long and the CDC recognizes that wearing a mask in these circumstances is not advisable. Other measures being taken are working when properly and consistently done in keeping people safe. Trying to keep masks on a group of children for the better part of a day will be like herding cats.

As a City of Milwaukee employee, I strongly support this legislation. We need to take steps to protect everyone in our community. Rules need to be laid out for the buildings within the City Hall Complex. Our office has daily contact with the public and in very large numbers during the tax collection period, which is another event which needs to be looked at very closely and prepared for in order to maintain the health of everyone. Thank you for taking action. This is how a community comes together.

The science indicates that the more people that wear masks when in close proximity and indoors limits the spread of the virus. Wearing a mask is not an inconvenience, when considering the health and safety of all of our residents.

NO. How hard is that to understand?

It's not about one individual person, it's about the community. Wearing masks in public protects people that have to come in contact with multiple different people because of their work requirements. People like servers, cashiers, mail clerks, and so many more have to come in contact with hundreds of people daily. We need to protect our community and this is an easy way to help stop the spread.

I wholeheartedly support requiring face coverings in public spaces. The CDC and WHO recommend it, and as we have seen, multiple states where the pandemic has turned into a crisis mode have now required masks, but it's too late - as it has cost those states many lives. In addition, the EU, with a population larger than the US, has managed to mostly control the virus, and the difference is that they require masks in public spaces. This is a no brainer. Too many citizens are acting recklessly during this public health emergency. The ordinance is needed.
