2. 200426 An ordinance relating to a requirement for face coverings in public spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is in the best interest of the public to help us help ourselves. Mandating masks will ensure our businesses do not have to go through wave after wave of openings and closings when an employee tests positive. The sooner we all mask up, including those who wouldn't wear one otherwise without this resolution, the sooner we can get through this and back to normal. It is unfortunate we have to compel others to do what is right, but like many other resolutions, this is absolutely in the public's best interest to protect all of us, including our most vulnerable.

Overall, I support the proposal as written and am especially encouraged by the amendment of the 30-foot distance outdoors, which was unreasonable and unnecessary. However, I still feel that this ordinance puts too much emphasis on requiring a mask outdoors. Even a recent video from the health department noted that the risk of transmission outdoors when simply passing another person on the sidewalk is minimal/negligible. Please consider amending the resolution so as to concentrate enforcement on the most high risk environments, ie those which are indoors, cramped and/or heavily-trafficked.

I am opposed to the mask mandate under consideration in any and all forms. I live and own my home in the city, pay taxes, and patronize local businesses and spend a fair amount while doing so. Any business that wants to require that their patrons wear masks is free to do so currently if they so choose.

I will go out of my way to not patronize a single business in the city further if this is passed.

    Thank you for your consideration.

The science for "masks" is invalid as a safety precaution and if it is to be mandated, it should be treated as a necessity and distributed among citizens at no cost.

I support this ordinance to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It's abhorrent to me that some folks would put others at risk, just because they would rather not be mildly inconvenienced. We need to take care of each other.

I do not support. Government over reach. Does not consider those who might have undiagnosed conditions preventing them from wearing a mask.

I will not do business in Milwaukee if this goes through.

I support the ordinance. Science is not an opinion or belief that we may shape to our own personal preference. Properly worn masks are minimally inconvenient and have proven effective at reducing public transmission of COVID-19. To require the public wear them in public indoor spaces during this pandemic is sensible, necessary, and Constitutionally proper. Thank you.

I support this ordinance. The University of Washington projects that 45,000 lives in the U.S.A. could be saved by November if 95% of the population wore masks.

This sounds like and necessary step at this point in the pandemic. And an obvious one, for the sake of our community.

I think it should be left to the business to decide if they want to make the employee's and customer's wear masks. It should also be left up to people to decide if they want to wear a mask.

Challenging to enforce! Define public space. Any revenue generating, yes. Awareness on a trail, playground etc, if closer than 6ft, put ur mask on.

I support mandatory masks in Milwaukee. WI now has the fastest spreading covid in the nation, concentrated in Milwaukee. Masks are scientifically proven to help to stop the spread and keep everyone safe. It is a public health concern, not political as many would like to make it.

This is a ridiculous, non-scientific tyrannical order that will do nothing. Does anyone on your board understand the science of virology? What does Osha say about masks? What do real scientists say?

I would like to register my strong opposition to any resolution calling for mandatory masking in the city of Milwaukee. Any such ordinance is unnecessary, inconvenient, and ineffective, according to numerous medical authorities. Such a mandate is also clear governmental overreach, which will result in numerous costly, and most likely successful, lawsuits, given the recent rejection by the Wisconsin Supreme Court of Gov. Evers “Safer At Home” order. It is a terrible idea.
