I strongly support this ordinance. MKE does care, and it is our responsibility to care for and protect each other in the face of this pandemic. Science has shown that the best way to do that is to wear a mask.
I support indoor mask wearing, but I don’t support the mandate as written. I don’t agree with an outdoor mask mandate in the broad definition of a public place, especially for exercise. If I’m passing someone on the street within 6 feet, the amount of virus to be inhaled within that very brief interaction is minimal, especially when you take into consideration how quickly droplets are dispersed outdoors. That doesn’t mean that I don’t support and will make every effort to socially distance. Recent studies indicate it is a combination of viral load and time of exposure for risk of transmission.
For this to move forward for the common good, we must have an exit plan. When will it be determined that we will be healthy enough again to not wear masks?
As human beings we should exercise personal responsibility and have the freedom to decide whether or not going somewhere is a risk for our particular health and the health of our family. Education to the general public on health risks would be more effective then forcing a mandate and dividing our communities.
Strongly support! Masks up Milwaukee! And yes over your nose too!! If you want to enjoy everything Milwaukee has to offer, then protect the people that are making that happen so everyone can enjoy it as well! This is not about individual "freedom", it is about being a decent person who care about people and the community. I wear a mask while I work for many reasons...to stay safe, to keep you and your family safe, they are recommended by every scientist in the world! I have seen many people get sick and struggle during this pandemic and I don't want to see it happen to you! MASK UP MKE!
There is absolutely no data supporting face coverings stop the spread of viruses, but plenty of data that shows it is much worse to wear face coverings daily in public because it literally weakens our immune systems, depletes our amount of oxygen, increases amount of bacteria/ carbon monoxide we breathe in, etc. This is also another step in taking our rights away which I do NOT support!
This is a public health issue, not a political issue. Wearing masks can help mitigate the spread of Covid-19, hopefully to the point where testing and contact tracing will be effective and we can truly begin the return to work, school etc.
I am in opposition to the proposed mandate. Wisconsin ruled the previous government overreach to be unconstitutional. In addition, data from the CDC shows that COVID-19 is not a threat to the overall population. Our current widespread use of PPE in public spaces is incorrect. Most face coverings are fabric, which are not tight to the face and allow for air to escape out the sides. Their discomfort cause people to touch their face and mask more often, causing a concentrated amount of contaminants on their fingertips, thus spreading to anything they may touch. This is unnecessary and pointless.
I fully support mandatory mask-wearing. The science shows that it can slow the spread and save lives. It would be amazing if people could be relied on to make smart, compassionate choices for themselves - but based on Wisconsin’s rate of transmission, simply relying on the good sense of individuals doesn’t seem to be working. At all.
Oppose! The current survival rate for covid-19 is upwards of 99%! Peer reviewed data shows that CLOTH masks do more harm than good & can lead to Hypercapnia & hypoxia! Our bodies need oxygen & need to get rid of access CO2!
“A cloth face covering may not protect the wearer, but it may keep the wearer from spreading the virus to others.” -CDC
So I am to believe that cotton masks are able to prevent virus particles from leaving said mask, BUT it allows it to enter? The LOGIC is laughable. The “science” is flawed & biased at best.
We are awake. We do not consent & we will not comply.
I wrote a long message of support for this ordinance, but unfortunately it was lost when I was required to create an account. In short, you cannot expect at risk citizens to cut themselves off from all essential trips/deliveries (yes, delivery personnel are rarely masked and struggle to follow directions to simply leave food/groceries at the door for a contactless drop off). In not passing an ordinance requiring masks you have killed many citizens who would have otherwise lived. There are zero downsides to wearing a mask to protect others, there are many if you contract and spread COVID-19.
As of 7/7/2020 there were only 32,556 cases of COVID in Wisconsin. Divide that by 5,851,750, the population of Wisconsin, to get .0055. .0055 x 100 = .55% - for about a half of a single percent of the population of our state, we are going county by county and mandating mask wearing which has been proven ineffective by SCIENCE? If you are going to cry "my body, my choice" when it comes to the murder of innocent unborn children, then it is my body and my choice not to adopt a practice which is harmful to my health. This is a direct violation of the Constitution and the ADA. I WILL NOT COMPLY!
It would be irresponsible to deny the scientific evidence that supports the effectiveness of wearing masks during this pandemic. At this point, it is our moral obligation to mandate this. I STRONGLY support this ordinance because I care about the health and livelihood of our communities. Use your leadership responsibly and protect us instead of making us more vulnerable in harms way. Make the right decision. Our lives depend on it.
Face mask should be mandatory. We should be concerned about the safety and well being of all our community members. Individuals that cannot wear masks should stay on lock down until a vaccine has been produced.
We have obligations to fulfill as we live in a city we share with hundreds of thousands of people. The simple consideration of wearing a masks shouldn’t be welcomed during a pandemic & also the use of one normalized.
Please do not make face masks mandatory to wear. I have family members who have respiratory issues and wearing a mask could be dangerous. I can’t keep them inside and away from public places all the time as it takes a toll on my family’s mental health. This decision should be up to individuals and businesses to make. If this mandate happens, we will see more people traveling to other places and making it harder to social distance. We already have too many people coming up from Illinois because of their strict face mask mandates.

No manditory face mask.....it's an individuals Choice!

Ridiculous proposal

Community spread hurts the public and the economy. Masks can mitigate community spread and keep city moving forward.
