Masks and social distancing have been PROVEN to work. You can breathe just FINE with one on. I dont know how else to tell you that you should care about other people. “Their right” is spreading germs, exposing themselves, exposing everyone around them. It’s honestly appalling that people don’t care about the people around them enough to cover their faces. You can wear one for an hour while you’re out doing “leisure” shopping that isn’t necessary.

It is irresponsible not to enact such an small and effective intervention.

I adamantly support this. I urge Milwaukee to look to our neighboring states (Illinois) and counties (Dane) to learn how a mandate works for citizens. Illinois, in particular, has had a mask mandate in place for months and their numbers are trending in the right direction. If businesses or citizens have concerns about enforcement or how to monitor a mandate, just ask places that have been doing so for months.

This virus threatens all of us. To date, over 12 million people have been sickened world (3 million in the US, nearly 13K in Milwaukee), and over 500K have died (130K in the US, and nearly 400 in Milwaukee.) The spread of this virus can be reduced if we wear face coverings. We each have a responsibility to engage in behaviors that do not endanger others in our community. As a result, this mask mandate is a common-sense, legitimate and ethical ordinance. If we got out in public, we require masks during this pandemic. Those opposing this have proven they will not wear one without a requirement.

I fully support this ordinance. Wearing a mask in public requires almost no effort and is such a simple, easy way to reduce the spread, keep yourself and your loved ones safe, and save lives.

I would love to believe that our citizens would care about each other enough to take this small move to protect others from the virus . Sadly, this small move , wearing a mask , scientifically proven to slow the spread of a disease has become an idiotic cultural fight . We require shoes in public places , not smoking inside and seat belts . Requiring masks during a pandemic is just common sense . The right to not be exposed to disease supersedes the “ right “ to possibly infect others.
Please require masks and save lives .

    6/7/20 WHO statement:
"Non-medical, fabric masks are being used by many people in public areas, but there has been limited evidence on their effectiveness and WHO does not recommend their widespread use among the public for control of COVID-19...the use of a mask alone is not sufficient to provide an adequate level of protection against COVID-19."

Every mask available for purchase states on the box it does not prevent the transmission of viruses such as Covid-19.

The FDA never issued approval for any facial covering to be used by the public for suppression of any illness.

You can't mandate use of a device for something it is not approved for under penalty of Federal Law (title 21).

The choice to wear or not wear masks should NOT be legislated, but needs to be the personal freedom of individuals and/or individual businesses to decide to do so. Those who feel masks make them feel safer should wear them OR STAY HOME. If businesses mandate the wearing of masks, more power to them. The public has the choice to support them or take their business elsewhere.
It would be a great overreach of governmental authority to legislate such an action.
Hopefully we won't see you in Court.

Individuals have a right to making their own health choices.
Masks have not been proven to be healthy for individuals as it can increase CO2 levels which can be hazardous to one's own health.
Deaths from COVID-19 are on the decline despite increased cases.
Increased testing offers more incidences of COVID-19 positive tests, however, many are asymptomatic. Obviously with increased testing, we will have increased cases.

Milwaukee must have a required face mask mandate. Wisconsin has become one of the fastest COVID spreading states spread in the US—why? Because of a lack of leadership pertaining to appropriate actions citizens should be taking in the midst of a global pandemic (one of which should be a face mask in all public spaces). Do we want to look back and know that in response to a life threatening virus we did nothing? That there was no attempt to minimize the spread of something putting human life at risk? If we do not take any action steps toward safety, we should all be ashamed.

Short of businesses being closed again, and in light of recent occurrences with non-maskers threatening to, or actually inflicting, damage to the property or sickness upon ourselves, this is the only other tool we have at our disposal to keep us safe. We in the service industry feel that restaurants/bars were opened with little thought as to the consequences and if you are going to force us open, the least you can do is pass this ordinance to insure that we don't bring the virus home to our partners and children. I see this as necessary if we are to open schools in the fall.

I am a Milwaukee parent and private business owner. I fully support the mask ordinance. The amendments have made it a much more reasonable requirement. I urge the committee to address the potential for police overreach in enforcement, though, specifically in regard to the possibility of racist practices in our current policing methods. I do not want to see people of color, Black folks in particular, targeted for enforcement.

I wholeheartedly support passing this ordinance for the safety of the community and the sake of our economy. Please pass the ordinance. People are obviously not taking precautions on their own accords, given the number of people in public places without a mask on. This simple little action could help save lives. Given that, there is no question in my mind that we should all wear a mask.

I fully support wearing face coverings in public. We should be listening to public health expert’s advice when making decision for the community. Let’s not politicize such a topic that is based on science. Even if we only save one life, it would be well worth it!
