Multiple research studies now indicate that masking policies made by government authorities drastically reduce infection rates! This study found that masking policies led to a direct reduction in viral transmission in the US: https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/10.1377/hlthaff.2020.00818. This global study of masking policies found that masking not only prevented transmission, but economic impact via lockdowns: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/342198360_Association_of_country-wide_coronavirus_mortality_with_demographics_testing_lockdowns_and_public_wearing_of_masks_Update_June_15_2020

This is overkill and violates my medical freedom. Don't treat us like we are lemmings and trusting the government to protect us without question. We will rebel!

Many people have medical conditions that contraindict the use of a mask. Mandating the use of masks, even if there are medical exceptions, will create additional barriers to those with disabilities and will greatly increases the level of harassment they receive from private citizens, essential businesses, and enforcement officers.

I believe in the right to choose, and so did our founding fathers. If you want to wear a mask then wear one, if you don't then don't. There has not been enough research or studies done to prove wearing a mask, all the time, is not harmful to your health - look how well that turned out for cigarettes. I honestly wish you would start thinking about the economy and how all your actions are effecting the City of Milwaukee and it's decline. You have allowed protest, after protest , and now we see a spike, and your resolution is to impact businesses once again. Shame on you!!

Masks are the only way to control this virus. I also think bars should be open it's too hard to regulate.

Until we have 100% concrete proof that masks are beneficial I feel it is irresponsible to force the majority of the public to wear them. There are experts on either side of the argument. It is wrong to take away an individual's choice regarding their own body when a variety of factors such as improper fit, improper placement of the mask and the holes of many of these masks being larger than the virus itself make the argument for protecting others through wearing masks dubious at best.

Private businesses that wish to enforce a mask wearing policy are welcome to do so and customers can choose to support that or not by taking their business to those places or elsewhere. It is unlawful for the city to force its citizens to wear masks in public. There is still much debate about the actual efficacy of masks and not worth the harmful effects and psychological well being of the people being forced to wear them.

I respect freedom of choice. For those who feel the masks do something for them they have the right to choose to wear them, and for those who oppose have the right to be without. I believe people need to exercise responsibility and accountability for THEMSELF. Forcing one's paranoia on another is unconstitutional.

This mandate is a violation of my freedom as an American citizen. I am smart enough to stay out of other people's faces and stay home if I'm feeling ill. Masks have been proven to be ineffective and were at first discouraged by the CDC. We're fooling ourselves if we think this is the answer to our problems. When all is said and done the only way to build any immunity is to actually be exposed to the virus. I have confidence in my immune system and I have the brains to stay away from those that don't have a healthy immune system.

Masks do more harm to your health than good. There are studies showing asymptomatic people DO NOT SPREAD the virus like previously thought so masks should be reserved for those who are actively sick or for those that want to wear one to "protect" themselves. It should NOT be a mandate. Also, studies show show children do not spread this virus easily either. Stop this mask nonsense! Support your immune system with diet, exercise, vitamins, fresh air, and sunlight!

I don't support wearing a mask. They are more harmful than good. It does not protect you from getting the virus and you don't get enough oxygen wearing it.

There's no research showing that masks do anything. Even CDCs "research" states that more research needs to be done. It's unconstitutional to tell people what they need to wear! People that want to wear one can wear one if they so choose!

Please make masks mandatory. As our city continues to "open," it should be a collective effort to keep our entire community, and all of our neighbors safe. Please also note that this change.org petition has over 8,000 signatures in support of this measure as of Wednesday morning. https://www.change.org/p/the-city-of-milwaukee-should-require-masks-in-public-places-to-protect-residents

It is my understanding that the venues who are asking for this mandate do not want to set up their own mandatory mask policies in their businesses, so they want to take away the constitutional rights of all other Milwaukee residents. No mandatory masks! This is against my rights as an American citizen. Research also shows that masks are actually harmful to the wearer. If this is granted, will the City of Milwaukee be liable for any health repercussions, or will these restaurant groups be footing those bills?

A face mask is a medical device. A government agency does not hold a medical license. You do not have the authority to issue such a directive.
