Please support a mask policy! This is an issue of science not politics.

Hard support for wearing a mask in public. This should be a no brainer. I’m not going to provide any stupid links for you guys. I just want to continue living. Thanks.

Reason demands that this legislation be opposed. First, loose-fitting cloth and bandana-style masks have been show to work poorly (https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/5.0016018), so unless the legislation requires specific types of coverings, there will be limited benefit. Second, masks quickly become saturated with repeated coughing, reducing their usefulness even further (https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/5.0015044). Third, no one is going to confront the people wear their masks incorrectly (below the nose) or the protesters who don't wear them at all, making this unenforceable.

I wholeheartedly support the mandatory wearing of masks in all private businesses, especially those with indoor settings. It’s our best shot at slowing COVID19, second only to shutting down again.
However, I worry that policing public and outdoor spaces will lead to unnecessary interactions between citizens and law enforcement, and to unequal enforcement of the rule. Will the enforcement mechanism be a fine for noncompliant businesses, punishment for individual offenders, or something else?
Please consider these concerns as you amend and vote on this policy.
    Thank you,
    Olivia Dobbs

Opposed to mask mandate. Despite months of large protests, reopenings, and a big increase in people socializing without masks, both number of daily positive cases, as well as number of daily coronavirus-related deaths, continue to decline in Milwaukee. In Wisconsin and the US, daily deaths are also continuing to fall steadily, contradicting all the "sky is falling" warnings by health officials months ago. There is literally no reason to enforce this kind of divisive, unprecedented, and extremely contentious mandate now. This proposal is deeply offensive, intrusive, and it will be fought hard.

We should have the RIGHT to choose if we want to wear a mask or not. If a restaurant movie theater etc wants us to wear a mask while being in their facility that is the facilities right to request that BUT it is our choice not to attend those places because we dont approve of being forced to wear a mask.
Wearing a mask out in public should not be mandated and I ask that you not pass this. I am one who gets headaches from them. Then in humidity I cannot breath and have anxiety on top of it. Mandating masks is risking peoples health and mental states. UNFAIR!

Mask efficacy isn't up for debate. Implement a mask mandate if you care for human life, respect our healthcare workers, and want the economy to be able to re-open faster.

I highly oppose. Masks and respirators do not work. OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE IS CITED IN ARTICLE.
There have been extensive randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies, and meta-analysis reviews of RCT studies, which all show that masks and respirators do not work to prevent respiratory influenza-like illnesses, or respiratory illnesses believed to be transmitted by droplets and aerosol particles. This is against our constitutional rights.

I support an ordinance requiring mask-wearing in public places. Not enough is known about this virus, but we know that wearing a mask significantly decreases the spread of Covid-19. We all struggle with limitations this virus imposes. Living as if the danger does not exist will not make it go away. By wearing masks, we protect each other and we protect workers who provide services. The sooner we follow best safety practices, the sooner we can get past this very dangerous pandemic. Are we tough enough to win this fight? Quit whining and wear the masks.

No I'm absolutely opposed, why is it that we have to have our lives changed based upon no data and media hype? That is not effective Democratic policy. Masking is not based in scientific fact, or Reason and all it does is contribute to conflict among citizens no no no this must be voluntary

I fully support mandating masks in public spaces. I work in a busy cafe and I also live at home with a high risk person. I fear everyday that I will bring the virus home from work from careless customers who do not wear masks.

I am absolutely opposed to mandatory masking it is abusive unconstitutional and just plain rude, it should be a choice we are free and American we should have a choice if we want to wear these or not, there is zero scientific evidence to prove that these masks do anything. included is multiple exhaustive studies showing that masking does nothing....
I urge strongly that the city council start listening to science https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/j.1750-2659.2011.00307.x

I strongly support the passing of an ordinance calling for the wearing of a face covering in public places in Milwaukee. It is an easy way for everyone to help contain the spread of the corona virus. Data clearly shows it is an effective way to slow the spread of the virus. Please don't capitulate to those who promote disinformation on this issue. We must all strive to protect those members of our community who are vulnerable and at risk. We can't afford to be negligent in our duties and become another Florida! Many of our childhood heroes wore masks. This is our chance to be heroes too.

I am strongly opposed to mandating masks in public. I think we should all be encouraged to wear masks, but for some they make them short of breath and they may need to come off for a time. They can also induce panic attacks and the extra heat can cause faintness. We don’t need policing around masks. If people are extra concerned about it, they should stay home or take extra precautions. Please do not mandate masks in Milwaukee.

There is contradicting information regarding masks. There should be no mandate with these contradictions. Wearing a mask should remain a personal choice like all other health practices- diet, exercise, sleep, medication, treatment, surgery, etc. Unless healthy, clean eating practices will also be mandated to support true health, continue to recommend masks and require those who are vulnerable to stay home, distance, or wear a mask. Also consider the way cases and tests are counted as well as death counts. The inconsistency in these counts, makes it hard to compare previous and current data.

Please do not make a city wide mask rule. There are individual who can not wear masks for a number of reasons. Please allow individuals to make that decision and not be forced.

I fully support a mask requirement in public places. It's the only way to ensure the health and safety of residents. Our residents and workers are not protected if others around them don't wear masks. This is no different than requiring people to stop at stop signs or to not smoke in public places. We don't just leave it to people to decide if they want to do the right thing in these cases -- it's required. If we want to stop the spread of the coronavirus and make us all safer, masks when in public places should be, too.

This is a case of rights. The government shouldn’t tell us what to wear in any case. As we approach the anniversary of this nation declaring independence and with such animosity towards law enforcement and authoritarian over reach, now is not the time to give the government more power. Rights surrendered to the government will never be returned. If they can tell you what to wear and when what power will they take next. Life is to complicated to say wear masks at all time when in public no matter what. If you feel unsafe stay home or wear your mask. Do not tell me how to live.

Masks are a proven way to combat the spread of coronavirus. We need a citywide policy to protect the health of our citizens. Businesses should not be forced to choose between the safety of their customers and alienating those who won't wear a mask. Fighting a pandemic takes a collective effort and this ordinance will ensure we all do our part. Masks will help save lives and get us get back to "normal" more quickly.
