Because they are proven to be ineffective.

I will not spend one cent of my hard-earned money in Milwaukee if masks are required. First, what science says masks do any good? A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials from 1946-2017 on the CDC’s own website found masks to be ineffective.

Even if they were effective, how would wearing masks benefit society? No virus ever went away due to social distancing or mask-wearing. It needs to work its way through the healthy members of the populace. Herd immunity is what we need.

Masks are dehumanizing. We communicate through facial expressions. Masks are psychologically harmful.

I oppose this ordinance as I believe it should fall in the individual to do the right thing and protect its fellow citizens. This is a matter that does not need or warrant government intervention, and I trust the community to do the responsible thing to ensure the safety of everyone within it. Furthermore fines incurred would hurt the marginalized, without any true or plausible reason. Our focus should be on building a more safe and equal city not enforcing a mask policy.

I unintentionally commented about this item under Item #1. I support both proposals with the caveat that I hope the mask mandate isn’t disproportionately enforced in marginalized communities.

3 year olds wearing masks in 90+ degree weather outside ,let alone anyone, seems like a bigger risk to someones health. Working outside daily in this weather is hard enough the way it is. Adding a mask is illogical and will have people ending up in the hospital with heat stroke.

Why are you creating a new police dept by empowering the health dept to enforce this? How will you ensure they don't discriminate or target people with disabilities? Are they really going to stop people in the streets to enforce this? Why is there not an exercise exemption? Its kind of hard to wear one and exercise intensely. Exercise is a more important public health concern than this isnt? Should no one exercise for two years until this is over? Dr fauci hasnt said kids should wear masks? People eating out will be touching them a lot defeating the whole purpose of a mask on and off

Will there be an exception provided for gyms / fitness centers when 6 foot distancing can be maintained between patrons? If masks are required at all times, including while working out gyms will have a difficult time staying operational and residents who rely on organized fitness to stay healthy will also suffer. The WHO along with many other health experts advise that it is not safe to wear masks while exercising making this a liability and safety issue for gym owners. Obesity is a major risk factor in Covid-19 leading to poor outcomes and death.

There is no scientific proof that this VIRUS is prevented from spreading by the wearing of masks. Earlier this year, both the CDC and WHO, as well as Dr. Fauci, all stated that masks should be worn by those that are sick, and that the VIRUS is so small it can pass through masks. Additionally, both hospitalizations and deaths are on a downward trend in our state.

Will never comply. Waukesha County will happily receive any money I might have spent in Milwaukee County.

This is an alarming example of government overreach, based on flimsy studies that have not been properly vetted. Basing public health policy on this kind of “science” erodes trust in government officials to be unbiased and thoughtful in how they govern. Individuals and businesses are capable of making their own choices based on circumstances that evolve faster than any bureaucratic process ever could. Forcing children (or anyone) to wear masks outside in our humid summer weather is dangerous and a clear example of how poorly thought out this is.

Strongly oppose! Mandatory masks violates the right to self governance over one's own body without external influence or coercion, which is a fundamental human right.

This is a necessary step to keep our community safe. It's clear we cannot trust many in our community to make the appropriate and easy decision to wear a mask to take care of others. It's better to be safe than sorry. This is temporary. More people will feel safer patronizing businesses because they know they will be better protected from others.

To protect all the people in the service industry please pass this ordinance! I have elderly parents and I wear a mask in public places to protect others, it's an easy aid to help keeping germs from spreading. Until we have a vaccine, we need to do everything possible to help prevent the spread!

People can decide for themselves if they need a mask. This nothing but a wasted virtue signaling exercise that will only be enforced selectively at best and with political considerations in all likelihood

I believe something could be done for retail/grocery stores that everyone NEEDS to use. Bars and restaurants should keep going the way they are, it’s a personal choice to go to those places and the council has no right to interfere with that. It should never be mandatory outside. Shutting businesses down again will cause great harm to them and the city in the long run, while the suburbs move along normally. Do the right thing for all the people of the city.

I believe healthcare is a personal responsibility. This can look like different things for different people, & might not mean wearing a mask for everyone. As individuals we must make this choice for ourselves.

I do not agree that the government forcing its citizens to wear masks in public is just in a free society. My health as it relates to my body is my choice.

If the committee should choose to mandate masks & my voice gets drown out by my opposition, I would demand that the committee put into place a scientific measure that determines when masks are no longer needed.

    Thank you.

The 30 foot rule and mandatory masks for anyone over age 2 is a vast overreaching of legislative power. There is a need for personal responsibility. Business owners and individuals should decide what is best for them, NOT government. The government that governs best governs least. We citizens value our freedom, and I will exercise mine by shopping outside Milwaukee more than I already do to avoid this tax hades with excessive government regulations.

The exceptions in section 4 would be clearer if "consuming food or beverages" was moved from the end of 4c and added as a separate exception (4g). Many people will ask "How am I supposed to eat or drink at a bar or restaurant with a mask on?" without noticing that exception buried at the end of 4c. It wouldn't change the meaning or intent, but it would add clarity if it was moved to its own sub-point.
