I support a mask ordinance to slow the spread of covid.

Question. How do we slow the spread of misinformation?

I believe that the mask mandate should be up to individual business - not government. If this was imposed, I believe many categories and business types must be regulated differently. For example, child cares where a child is cared for 8-10 hours a day, it is not reasonable for a child or provider to wear a mask the entire day. Outside recreation - especially while a child is involved and in summer temperatures - breathing and hydrating is more important. Finally, regulations for those who medically cannot wear masks. These are just a few examples of many things that must be considered.

While I support the right of a business to refuse service for not wearing a mask (shirt, shoes, etc), I oppose a government sponsored mask mandate. The burden of proof has not been met to support a mask mandate. It is government overreach. As elected officials, you are responsible to protect individual rights and offer guidance, not impose your will on your constituents under the threat of fines.

It's no way I'm supporting the mask. Who wants to breath in their own carbon dioxide. The media, the numbers of deaths are all lies. Do your own research before listening to everything they tell you. The truth will set you free. Then your trying to bully you by enforcing fines. People will really be sick if these corrupt officials go through with this. STOP LYING !!!

There is no easy way back to normality, but wearing a mask right now gives businesses the best chance at coming back without set backs. I also don't trust individuals to make decisions in the best interest of others.

Wearing a mask should be a choice

Weird how this Issue never came up for the flu. Maybe we can require face coverings for everyone, indefinitely, forever.... Just make it a law. If anyone is caught without wearing a mask, we can just throw them in jail. Shut up and obey.

It’s the simplest and most effective way to protect yourself and others. Many countries which have mandated mask-wearing are doing significantly better in containing outbreaks than the US has.

Fines are a money grab. Business shut down dictatorship not democracy. CDC under 2 suffocation risk. CDC Not needed if social distant min 6 ft. WHO states difficulty breathing when active, WHO sweat in mask risk for microorganisms. Person should have choice what is best for themselves. Shouldn’t have to be discriminated or fined for not wearing mask as they may have trouble breathing or may have ADA exemptions and legally cannot be discriminated against. There is no supporting evidence that a mask is superior to other precautions, hand washing, cover cough or sneeze, and social distancing.

Masks have been proven to be effective. Countries that have widely adopted masks have fared much better. Countries who have not, like Sweden, have had far more cases of deaths and illness per capita compared to their scandinavian neighbors. Anyone can stay home if they do not want to wear one. There should not be any exemptions, like exercise, because it will be used as a loophole. Those people can exercise on their property instead of in public and should not be allowed to endanger the rest of us. This is the best chance we have. Thank you for introducing this ordinance.

I am in support of this and think it will help Milwaukee limit the spread. It's really a no brainer. Masks are effective and it's about time we require them.

I am strongly opposed to requiring face coverings outdoors. Whether masks should be worn indoors should be left to individual businesses, which can (if they choose) enforce it more efficiently. The Council may certainly make a recommendation in this matter, but to surveil citizens and threaten them with fines is the kind of bullying we can all do without this summer.

Fully support. Thank you for keeping us safe. Government mandates seatbelts and driving sober to save lives; this is similar.

The 6ft distance outdoors is sensible and workable for running and biking.

The religious exemption should be removed; religion cannot be a justification for harming others.

Bars and restaurants should be closed and gathering sizes reduced to truly stop this outbreak.

I strongly agree that mandating masks is a necessity. Time for the City of Milwaukee to do the right thing. I wear a mask for you! We are all in this together folks. I’m baffled that an thinking person might object to such a simple and scientifically proven way to slow the spread of COVID.

As a business owner who services events in Milwaukee, I am concerned about the large gatherings that are now allowing 100 + guests. Requiring masks is proven to keep people safe when gathering. Pass this to keep our event industry staff safe.

Fully support. Thank you for changing the 30ft rule to 6ft.
Many essential workers are POC, and as you're aware, Covid has disproportionately affected POC; while they may wear masks to protect those around them, if their patrons don't wear masks or their coworkers don't wear masks...no one is protecting them.
Milwaukee residents do not deserve to die out of negligence.

While those who oppose may be more vocal that doesn't mean they're the majority.

I strongly support requiring masks. We must follow science and health professionals to protect our city and help stop the spread of COVID 19. This is months overdue. Please vote yes!

I fully support this mandate. It’s the simplest and most effective way to protect others while businesses begin to reopen.
