I strongly oppose a mandatory mask requirement. It should be up to the individual or business.

I strongly oppose this ordinance. The government is overstepping individual rights. Businesses have the right and responsibility to determine whether their patrons should or should not require face masks. It is my responsibility and right to determine whether I or my children shall wear masks, NOT THE GOVERNMENT'S! Stop trying to infringe on our rights

Masks have, in some studies, been shown to reduce transmission of COVID-19 if both the infected and non infected parties are wearing masks by 1.5%. If you’re not going to wear a mask, just say that you don’t care if you or others die confidently instead of making it a political statement. Masks are like seatbelts. Are they kind of annoying? Sure. But not wearing one is reckless and irresponsible. Source: Still Confused About Masks? Here’s the Science Behind How Face Masks Prevent Coronavirus. Written by Nina Bai. There is nothing proving that masks prevent or slow the spread of COVID-19. The CDC says that masks MAY slow the spread by preventing people from touching their faces and by covering noses/mouths when sneezing or coughing. The masks do not prevent you from inhaling respiratory droplets nor do they prevent you from exhaling respiratory droplets. Face masks not properly washed carry even greater risk. This should be a personal choice based on a persons own research. This is an overreach by government officials.

Masks stop the spread of COVID-19. They keep everyone safe! It only makes sense to require masks to be worn because of this.

I strongly support this ordinance. It’s obvious with the increasing number of COVID-19 cases that people are not taking wearing a mask and socially distancing seriously. We need the City of Milwaukee to step up and save lives with a mask ordinance. Please also consider going back to phase 3 for our City. It makes no sense why we’re opening the city when there cases of COVID-19 (and deaths) are on the rise.

I am all for masks being worn in public but against this ordinance. Leave it up to the business and the individual. Don't force your views on every resident of this city. I also have heard that some bar and restaurant owners signatures were forged and are actually against this ordinance! Brat House, Dorsia, Wards House of Prime, Still River, Saz's, have all removed their names. This ordinance is supported by lies.

I am a teacher in Milwaukee. I am concerned about young children wearing a face mask for extended amounts of time who might attend school on site in the Fall. Could there be an exception to not require young students to wear them if strong social distancing measures are already in place such as a 1:10 teacher to student ratio? Thank you for taking your time to consider the public’s concerns.

I oppose this ordinance. Wisconsin has done very well during this pandemic when compared to other states. Wearing masks is a good idea and it is an individual choice. To pass this ordinance is government over reach. There are alternatives that concerned citizens have if they do not wish to be around non mask wearing individuals. I implore you to not pass this. As elected officials you have an obligation to all constituents, including the rights and freedoms of those that do not wish to wear a mask.

We travel to Milwaukee for a plethora of reasons. We are local and love to support our local economy and small businesses as well as larger venues who, in turn, support local people by providing jobs for them. We will travel elsewhere if this ordinance passes. We will especially miss the zoo and Miller Park.

The countries worldwide that have the pandemic under control are the ones that require masks. The only side effect of wearing one is the prevention of spreading COVID-19. This is a common sense mandate and masks should absolutely be required to protect everyone, but especially those poor and BIPOC communities disproportionately affected in Milwaukee.

I strongly OPPOSE any and all mask mandates. Every person is responsible for their own health. If masks are mandated, then why not mandate what kind of food we eat and how much we exercise? Government overreach will not stop with a mask.

Strongly oppose mask wearing for outdoor recreation where greater than 6’ distance is easily met. Also, the likelihood of a child under 5 wearing a mask properly or keeping it on is unlikely. Milwaukee will see a loss of business revenue, I’m sure of it. There is also no mention of an end date or criteria for discontinuing the ordinance. We will not comply, period.

This ordinance is a no brainer. It's supported by science, and it's one of the most effective methods we have to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The quicker we curb the spread of the virus, the quicker we can get things back up and running.

One of the easiest & most effective ways to curb the spread of COVID is by wearing a mask in a public place. I FULLY support this mandate. If people were already wearing masks on their own this wouldn't need to be voted on! But, because they're not, they may have to legally. The safety of thousands is more important than your minor personal inconvenience.

I was born and raised in Milwaukee, and still have relatives there. I visit and shop about once a month. I also come into town for different events. However, if masks are required, I will only shop and meet my relatives outside of the city.

Individual business requiring a mask, I'll buy that. Requiring a mask outdoors or forcing an individual to wear one while doing anything strenuous, no way. What becomes of gyms and other workout facilities? What about people who are working on the street on a 90 degree day?

Both the CDC and WHO recommend against wearing masks when doing anything that requires an individual to breathe harder. Forcing people to dial down their workouts because they can't breathe is only going to lead to people quitting and causing other ill effects to happen to those people (depression, suicide, alcoholism).

I strongly oppose. The CDC has already said there are DECLINING death rates. Asymptomatic spread is RARE. This virus is spread by droplets and those who are coughing should STAY HOME, pandemic or not! Healthy people DO NOT need to wear masks. This is a slippery slope for the government to start mandating something like this. I live in Milwaukee and I WILL NOT comply. I will also take all my business to places outside Milwaukee.

This is a personal decision, not something the government should enforce. Our police department has enough on its plate with traffic and crime, this is not something they should be asked to enforce also. Death and serious hospital cases are dropping, so there is no need for this over-reach. I and many others I know will take out business out of Milwaukee rather than deal with such a infringement on our personal rights.

Wearing a mask should be up to the individual. Forcing this is ridiculous as any communist state is. Forcing children 2 and 3 years old is the dumbest thing i have heard. Children can't keep anything on their faces. And in this heat you'd rather kill us by suffocation. If you must mandate, make the elder and people with weak immune systems wear them. Don't force your communist values on everyone.
