The same people who are trying to uphold this archaic and inhumane law are the same people who refuse to support universal healthcare, paid maternity leave, and basic services to help struggling families. Those who claim to be "pro life" have no plan whatsoever for what happens after they force a woman to give birth.
These kinds of disgusting, sweeping policies don't even achieve what they claim to do. A robust healthcare system with support for birth control, sex ed, free child care would be way more effective than forced birth and criminalizing women.
This is religious extremism and it has no place in our politics or policies. I strongly support repealing this antiquated and inhumane law.
The overturning of Roe v Wade, and the reverting back to a rigid 1849 prohibition on abortion, not only sends Wisconsin reeling back into the 19th century, it makes women second class citizens (behind men and embryos/fetuses). This law will have a significant (and negative) impact on women in minority and vulnerable communities. It will put the lives of mother's at risk, regardless of whether the pregnancy was planned or not. Additionally, and this is a point often lost, couples seeking IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment will also likely have those services either discontinued or made riskier and/or more costly due to this law. It must be overturned.
Abortion is murder. That life within the womb, is a new life, the argument of "my body, my choice" is a fallacy. From the moment of conception, you are a Steward of that life within you by the Creator, it is not your property to do with as you see fit. Promote justice.
A broad majority of Americans did not want to see Roe v. Wade overturned. Access to the full spectrum of medical care, including abortion, is essential for people’s health, safety, and wellbeing. When you take away a person's right to bodily autonomy, you hinder their economic prospects, their mental and physical health. Our prosperity as a community is on the line.
Not everybody can afford to have children. Abortion is a highly emotional and personal choice and we should leave it to the people who would have to go through with a pregnancy.
In the Declaration of Independence, our forefathers wrote “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Our forefathers understood that life is an unalienable right. Due to the fact that God creates life at the moment of conception, abortion is murder. No man ought to be able to unjustly murder a human being, yet this is what our nation has been doing for nearly 50 years to our pre-born neighbors in the name of “healthcare.” A stupid montra. Let me state the obvious: murder is not healthcare. America has murdered more than 60 million babies, more than 10 times that of the the Jewish Holocaust. All the while, we’ve known it was wrong and are without excuse before God. Therefore, our city MUST repent of this bloodshed. The Milwaukee City Council has a duty and an obligation to obey God and enforce Statute 940.04. God hates the hand that sheds innocent blood, and judgment will come if our city does not repent of this evil act and turn to Christ.
As a 60 year old abortion survivor, I’m glad I’m alive. Thankful the abortion didn’t go through and thankful for being adopted. Every life is valuable wether the mother wants the child or not. It’s not healthcare access to give a woman an abortion.
This is an archaic law that doesn't reflect the changes or the facts that have occurred over the last 100+ years. Since then, men and women need to work outside the home to meet their basic needs. Government mandated birth puts them as well as.our already fragile economy at risk. All the comments and rebuttals I see quote the bible or come from a position of religion. We are supposed to be following a separation of church and state. The facts are clear. Without this right, our already appalling maternal (and frankly fetal) mortality rate will get worse. This will not prevent abortion, but will force women to use "underground" means to accomplish it. By prohibiting abortion you make women second class citizens. Government mandated birth creates the notion that women are not capable of making decisions for themselves. It will increase the need for welfare programs which none of these "Pro-Life" activists are interested in supporting. Once the fetus is born they/the law could care less. This isn't about saving lives it's about punishing women.

I firmly support this legislation. Our country was founded on the separation of church and state, yet we are banning abortion due to religious beliefs. Forced birth is not the answer. Please do the right thing and let people choose what is right for themselves.
Promote justice. Self control, loyalty and faithfulness are virtues missing from a society that seems to sacrifice the life of a child for a moment of self sexual gratification. Choice isn't being taken away. The choice to do something evil is being recognized and treated as being evil. Justice rewards good choices and punished evil choices. Do not promote a culture of sexual immorality and murder.
There are other responsible means to prevent conception if pregnancy is really a health risk for you. Medical help that doesn't involve killing a child in the womb. Majority cases of abortion are not cases of health risks. Most of them are from people who sought to sexually gratify themselves and don't want the responsibility of a child. They sacrifice their child for temporary convenience and comfort. A child's life should be more valuable to them. But it's easy for them to discard something they can't see si they justify and excuse their selfish decision.
There is a choice prior to engaging in a act that creates life. If you can't be responsible then don't make a choice you cant be responsible for. Will not the judge of all the earth hold to account you in authority? Promote justice

In support of resolving abortion ban.
Roe v Wade must be upheld, and any argument made involving God or religious beliefs directly contradicts separating church from state.
Any female baby that is butchered through abortion will never have reproductive rights!
