I strongly support the appointment of Amanda Avalos. They have proven their dedication to the advancement of the Milwaukee community, and their love for the city and its residents. This, alongside their experience, convinces me that they are the right person for this position. Milwaukee needs new, fresh, and bold leadership, which is exactly what we will be getting if Amanda is appointed.

Again, I undoubtedly support the appointment of Amanda Avalos.

She is approachable and adept at advocating for those whose voices need amplifing. Amanda is an excellent addition to the board of police and fire commissioners. I fully support her nomination and look forward to her contributions.

Amanda has done work in this community that is and has always been done with the communities heart in mind. They act from a place of love and protecting the community they love. This position was in need of a person like Amanda. We love her and the creativity and re imagining she will bring must be recognized.

I strongly support Amanda Avalos appointment! She's exactly the kind of person I would trust to speak truth to power and challenge the status quo. The way things have been going isn't serving us, and it's actively damaging communities of color in our community. Amanda is so intelligent, and she has the experience and knowledge needed to succeed in this area. She's been working tirelessly to improve our community and speak for those who aren't often heard, and I have absolutely no doubt that she would do incredible work on the commission.

She is a disaster waiting to happen. Look at her social media posts!! If these alderman and mayor and foc mber think defunding police is going to solve this city's issues, we.need to start protesting at the alderman and fpc members houses. This is rediculous that she is even an option for the FPC. LOOK AT HER TWITTER!

I am in complete support of Amanda Avalos being appointed to the commission. She has shown nothing but strong and intentional leadership in this city and works tirelessly to ensure access to government at all levels to ALL people. Amanda understands the role of the FPC, and her responsibilities and limitations as a commissioner. Neither she, nor any other commissioner, have the ability to make decisions or vote on the budget, therefore, no one on the FPC can actually defund anything. Amanda is well aware of this. The FPC should not be a one sided table, we need representation that is objective and LISTENS to what Milwaukee residents need and want in order to feel safe in our city, Amanda is committed to doing that. Amanda is smart and knowledgeable, deeply connected to this city and its diverse communities, and perfectly poised to bring about stability the FPC needs. She will make sure to bridge the gap between city hall and Milwaukee communities, to ensure that we are getting some semblance of justice is being had. She is exactly what the FPC needs.

I support Amanda Avalos for the appointment of FPC Commissioner. I think she will be a strong advocate for those that often don’t have a seat at the table. On a related issue, why are comments only open for some resolutions? I oppose accepting the grant for surveillance equipment from the Dept. of Homeland Security. Also what’s the point of requiring an equity impact statement if the Dept. just says the same thing every time “there will be no negative impact on equity”. Really?! No impact when we know certain communities and events are over policed? Sure, let’s bust out our new surveillance equipment!

VOTE NO! Amanda Avalos publicly opposes our hard working public heroes! Her Twitter feed is full of her ANTI POLICE BIAS/ POLITICAL AGENDAS to defund/dismantle the public safety system of this city. DIRECT QUOTES from her public Twitter account:
7/23/20 “To be clear our vision of public safety not only doesn’t include the feds, it also doesn’t include the local/state law enforcement agencies and National Guard currently funded in-house.“
6/23/20 commenting on another posters’ tweet (‘police currently providing why they need to be defunded they do not keep the community safe) Amanda Avalos responds “you don’t need to look at the day this was posted to know this is true been true. #DefundTheMPD”
8/24/20 “If today you are in an elected position, use your powers to do some thing about this. City/county/state all has a part. Push policy, ordinances, laws. Do what will get us closer to a world that won’t uphold and fund this racist police state.”
8/24/20 “ it has never been more clear that we need new systems. Collectively we need to reimagine what public safety looks like without police and then fund that. there is no other way.“
THIS SHOULD ALARM EVERY CITIZEN OF MILWAUKEE.

Milwaukee needs the police, not this anti-police nonsense.

Please do not appoint Amanda Avalos the FPC as she clearly has an agenda to defund/abolish the police. It is more than apparent through her social media that she has complete disdain for the police. Why would you want someone that is so clearly against the police to be a member of the FPC? With murders in the City of Milwaukee at an all time high, there should absolutely be no talk of defunding/abolishing police. I already do not feel safe where I live as there was a murder two days ago 6 blocks from my place and appointing Amanda Avalos to the FPC would further erode my feelings of being safe while living in the city.

I strongly oppose the appointment of Amanda Avalos to the fire and police commission. Her obvious hatred for law enforcement precludes her from holding a position on that board. She does not have the experience necessary for such an important position.

How is this even a question? Someone who openly hates law enforcement is going to be the oversight to law enforcement? This shouldn’t even be on the table for her being a nominee. Mayor, you should be ashamed that this is the best option the city has to offer the residents. Let us get back to a place where the FPC is respected, neutral and doing what they are there to do. Not push an agenda. She is not qualified and is clearly trying to push HER agenda, not what is best for the city. Make the right choice and do not appoint her. The only people supporting her are likeminded individuals who have worked with her. The public does not want her on the FPC. Let’s stay away from nepotism and steer clear of radical thinkers who have nothing more to add than their own biases. Where is the plan to improve the city and police department?

Please don’t appoint Ms Avalos until a complete and thorough screening of her social media (Twitter) she has mentioned repeatedly how she wants to defund the police (her future commission) as well as take the mod out of mps.

Amanda Avolos is not qualified for this position. In addition, her anti-police views are not welcome in a city already dealing with a record homicide rate this year. I vehemently oppose Amanda Avolos for this position

Since when do we nominate officials who hate and despise on what they're are suppose to represent? This radical nonsense is unacceptable and it will not be tolerated too much longer by the citizens.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Obviously you do not bother to vet your applicants. Her social media accounts (tweets) are the most racist/discriminatory tweets towards are finest police officers that protect the city. Watch the exodus begin if she is appointed. No one will want to come to the city and it will fall like the others (Detroit, SF, Minn, Portland) Will her complete lack of respect for law enforcement and her narrow minded ability to comprehend the importance of law enforcement in any and all cities she is far from qualified for this position. I hope she never gets car jacked or robbed like Chris Abele. The response time to assist her will be long as it should be!
