As business owners we pledged to follow the guidance of the CDC at the beginning of the Pandemic. Our position has not changed. The CDC is and has been the organization that provides guidance and Milwaukee Health Department and Mayor Barrett are doing just that.

Stop moving the goal posts! First it was deaths, then hospitalizations, then cases. And now that the number is as low as it has been EVER...now you want to use vaccination numbers as a metric to justify restrictions? What about the hundreds of thousands of people in the state that already had the virus and have immunity already? Are you counting those individuals? Everyone that has wanted a shot has gotten one. Everyone else has made up they're mind that this is not the right time for them or they already have the antibodies. Besides, the shot DOES NOT prevent one from getting nor spreading COVID-19. Take a look around the country, the state, neighboring counties and cities that are wide open. Nothing is happening. Your one sided opinions and feelings do not and should not dictate what an entire population gets to do. I believe adults have assessed their own health risks and used common sense to adjust their daily lives. You should not be forcing anything on anyone. I didn't vote for your representation. We don't need your permission to breathe.
We don't need you to keep us safe. We need you to get off your high virtue horse and mind your own business.

Back to normal! People are adults and can make decisions based on what they feel is best for themselves. Politcal overreach is a disease.

Time to get back to normal! ALL we've heard for the past 14 months (primarily from Democrats) is follow the science. Now to follow the science does not play well with the narrative. What excuse can be used now.....hmmmm. How about not enough people are vaccinated (those who wanted to be would be by now)?
So let's keep trashing the economy, keep paying people to stay home and not work and inconvenience everyone who is vaccinated and according to the CDC, safe without a mask in most circumstances Another Milwaukee Failure is in the making (any there are many). Let's turn the tide and end the draconian mask mandate. If someone cannot deal with people not wearing masks around you....STAY HOME! P.S. A special thanks to all first responders and all other "essential workers" who did not get the luxury to hide at home and in their basements (you know who you are). A good idea would be to spend some of the $405 million on bonuses on the essential workers who put their personal and families safety at risk to do their public facing jobs while others isolated in fear.

The science Fauci and the CDC used to make this determination is pretty clear. People who are vaccinated are safe from catching or spreading COVID. Rather than trying to keep a now arbitrary rule on the books or fight about why the decision was made, it seems to me that a better use of our time would be to help all communities in Milwaukee get access to these vaccines. Perhaps Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic and Alderman Cavalier Johnson could team up to do that rather than fight the very clear message coming from the top public health experts in the country.
I applaud Marina for being the champion on the mandate when it was necessary. But now is the time to refocus our efforts. People need to be encouraged to get a vaccine and if nothing changes when they do, they will not have the incentive. Every person over the of 12 have access to a vaccine and science is very clear that COVID is rarely serious in children.

Everyone who wants a vaccine has the ability to get one. If there are issues with certain communities then that needs to be addressed directly. The city’s health and mask order has absolutely nothing to do with the rollout and distribution of vaccines.

The city of Milwaukee needs to recover socially and economically from the harrowing past year and a half. The city was on a great path and an “up and coming” city in the country. If we continue to hinder progress through this health order, the future growth and development of Milwaukee will be felt for a while. We need to follow the CDC guidelines and join reality. This virus is endemic and we will not reach herd immunity. It’s time to get back to making this city the vibrant and amazing place it is. Stop holding the people back.

I support keeping the mask mandate in the city of MKE for the near future, as we have not yet reached high enough vaccination rates to do so. As a parent of two kids under 12, I can honestly say I have done my absolute best to keep my whole family safe and healthy for the last 15 mos. I will take them to get vaccinated the MOMENT it is authorized for use in people under12, but until then, we are obviously relying on masking and social distancing to keep them safe. We don't take them many places at all, but having to now keep them home almost completely because we cannot trust that people not wearing masks are vaccinated is a blow to everyone's mental well-being. I think the city is lifting the mandate too soon, and I would support keeping it in place until more people are vaccinated and/or until small children can be vaccinated. This year has been long and difficult for those of us who have tried to follow all of the rules, and this feels like a bit of a slap in the face, and also like people are not considering the health and well-being of kids.
None of the people below who want the mandate lifted mention kids. It's tiring that they are constantly left out of this conversation

I oppose any effort to stop lifting the mask mandate. Maintaining the mask mandate will NOT encourage people who don’t want to be vaccinated to give in and get one.

Current restrictions encourage people to find another place to do business without the mandates. We are a ghost town compared to what we were. It’s going to take a LOT longer to bring it back than it did to destroy what we had.

The Common Council should leave making decisions on scientific and medical matters to the experts. The CDC ARE the experts with established credentials, transparent research, and independently verified analysis. Is there another expert body that disagrees with the CDC that the Common Council prefers to listen to?

At some point we have to treat people as adults to make their own decisions. If you are concerned you or your children are at risk, continue to wear a mask and get vaccinated when you can.

The original narrative was: Do the right thing, get vaccinated when you can, and after that you can resume your pre-pandemic life. If you take that away, you are giving even less incentive to people to do the right thing and get vaccinated. Why bother if NOTHING is going to change?

Are you blatantly anti-science at this point? They are holding the Lalapolooza concert in Chicago this summer, expecting a million + attendees, with NO MASK order or any kind of restrictions and you hacks want us to live in this constant sickness theater forever? Enough with this backwards nonsense. Would you like to reinstate using leeches as well? Masks do nothing but harm. The mask litter and filth are everywhere, kids’ psychological health has been harmed, and we need fresh air all the time. Period. My body, my choice-remember that? Get your hands off my body. Stop with the illness theatrics. NO MASKS. (And get them the heck off our children’s faces at school. Creepy to keep forcing them to wear these when the rest of the state and neighboring cities aren’t.) Stop making Milwaukee such an embarrassment. Worry about the violent crime here if you need something to do.

I oppose any efforts to stop the June 1st order lifting the mask mandate. You only need to turn on the TV or look on Facebook to see the many, many sites all over the City where vaccinations are easily available and have been for the past seven weeks. Efforts are being made to get them into the hands of primary care physicians. The vaccine hesitant and people who have already had the virus must do what they think best for their own health. Millions of us have gone before them to show that the vaccines are safe. We cannot continue to damage our local businesses or the learning of our students by remaining closed/at home, under limited capacity orders or masked. We are following the science of the CDC. I do not need a politician to tell me how to stay safe. I trust in my public health officials for that. Thank you.

Vaccines are free and widely available. We all need businesses to open at full capacity to get the economy moving forward. Spend your time increasing availability of vaccines to underserved populations, not penalizing those who have taken responsibility to be vaccinated for the greater good of the population. Additionally, please support fixing the unemployment compensation that is hindering businesses ability to hire the employees they need - seeking work MUST be a requirement to qualify for unemployment. It is too easy to sit home and collect money instead of working. Thank you for supporting the needs of your entire constituency.

I am extremely concerned regarding allowing individuals to be indoors without masks when our vaccination rate is very low compared to other areas of the country and the lack of vaccine for children under the age of 12. I have a six year old son and I am concerned about taking him into our community where masks are not required. Please do not move forward to allowing our community to return to "normal" prior to taking all necessary precautions.

You are municipal elected officials with zero relevant scientific education and experience. The CDC, who actually has expertise on the matter, said that the widely available vaccines are effective and masks indoors are no longer needed. Other communities are immediately rescinding their masking orders. It's over. Stop this nonsense.
