I appreciated Mr. Todd's comments during the 12/12 public meeting on his appointment - especially his articulation of the role of the Executive Director as both working under the direction of the FPC Board, as well as serving as an advisor and advocate. This is a delicate and nuanced balance, but I found his understanding of it to be compelling, and augurs well for successfully navigating it. I also believe, given his professional experience and the areas he highlighted in the meeting as warranting proactive consideration - such as oversight of no-knock warrants, use of confidential informants, ensuring proper procedures in use of line-ups/photo arrays, among others - that his proactive advocacy and advice to the Board will be focused on the issues that are most relevant to the community and seek to redress historical and system inequities.
